I really like the features of this oven, i.e. smooth top, double oven, etc. But the issues described below warrants a recall of this oven, and I'll be writing a letter to GE and carbon copy Consumer Reports.

Within days the new oven was delivered, we cooked using the top smaller oven. The oven temperature was consistently 40 degrees below what was indicated on the display. It also leaked steam from the ridge between the oven top and the rear display just below the 2nd dial from the left.

We called Sears where we bought the oven from, and they scheduled a new delivery date to exchange the oven for a new one. Once delivered, this second oven had the EXACT SAME issues described above.

Also, when using the top oven, the front upper edge bordering the oven door handle and the top surface gets VERY HOT. Anyone, especially kids, can very easily burn their fingers.

We purchased this in April '08 and after ~1 year the lettering below the knobs ("front" "rear") started to fade.

We had an incident where a guest turned on the wrong burner but we caught it before any damage. So we decided to do something about

We contacted Home Depot who said it was a cosmetic issue and not covered under the extended warranty although a sales person told us the opposite. GE's opinion is that it is cosmetic as well per Home Depot.

Replacement part is $264 + labor.
