Editorial Reviews

To most, G.E. Smith is the magnetic, blond-pony-tailed guitarist who once fronted Saturday Night Live's house band and jammed with some of the biggest names in the business. What is less well-known is that Smith is one of the most prolific, respected guitarists and musicologists working today. 50 Watt Fuse begins at Fender headquarters with the production of a G.E. Smith--model Fender Telecaster guitar. Smith describes how such a guitar has taken him around the world to create music with his greatest influences. With thoughtful interviews and classic performances from Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Hall & Oates, Rosanne Cash and others, this is the curriculum vitae of an immense musical talent and quintessential sideman. - S. I'm a real GE Smith fan -- even had the pleasure of taking a guitar workshop with him at Fur Peace Ranch last summer. I love this DVD. It's rather low-key and casual -- just like the man himself. If you love great music and great stories, youll love this movie. And the concert with master musician David Lindley is a wonderful bonus... drt

I like this guy and I think he's one of the most underrated musician and guitar players at all.
It's very interesting to see the steps and stations this fantastic guitar player has gone through. Uunfortunately most people won't know him. But there are a lot of them.
G.E. Smith has a great Country Picking technique as well he is able to play soulful solos.
The Live Concert with David Lindley is a wonderful piece of music of 2 brillant guitar players.
So people, buy it!

G.E. Smith.
When I first saw him on Saturday Night Live, I wondered who that strange looking fellow was. The next thought was the look doesn't matter, for that boy CAN PLAY! As I watched and learned about G.E. I was even more amazed, and then begin to understand his weird look wasn't that odd at all...for such a genius of guitar!
This video shows him in his best form, and the participation of David Lindley, makes this video a little better than it would have been solo! I use little in a cynical manner, for his contribution is amazing as always.
G.E. shows his great skills when taking on material written by persons as diverse as Warren Zevon, Roy Acuff, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Thomas Dorsey. Watching a master at work, and hearing testimonies by other greats in the world of music to his skills, all proves my point that the first impression of "that strange looking fellow" who "can play" was not far off track although I have been told by ladies I know that his appearance isn't strange at all. Many find him strongly attractive, and I must concur for he looks the part of the warriors of Scandinavia, or Ireland perhaps. Rugged in appearance, but perfect in style and execution on guitar. THAT sums up G.E. Smith in my view. Besides that, that man CAN REALLY PLAY!
Buy a copy today from Amazon as I did, and see what I saw...and heard!

When i was a kid (im 31 now) watching SNL through the 90's i was obsessed with guitar and music and i still am. Before i found out GE Smiths long and impressive history as a sideman i only knew him as the cool guy who always played awesome vintage guitars. I loved seeing what guitars he would play in the little 15 second clips between commercials. Later i found out he has had a long career with lots of big names. I really enjoyed the film. GE is a very cool layed back and down to earth guy and his story is interesting. Michael J Fox's interview is inspiring. Great movie.
