Didja Ever Here Music So Good,
By Ken Douglas (Landlocked in Reno) - See all my reviews
This review is from: G.I. Blues [Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
I still believe, after all these years, that this is one of the ten best records to come out in 1960 even though the superb Elvis is Back towers over it. This makes my list, because back then I wore out four or five copies of this disc. Seems I couldn't get enough of Elvis. My favorite song here is "Wooden Heart". RCA kind of screwed up by not releasing this as a single in the U.S. It was a hit in England, but before they got around to promoting it in the States, Joe Dowell covered it and had a number 1 hit with it. But I've always liked Elvis' version so much better. It seems there is a new Elvis repackage every year, but I prefer going back to the originals, listening to the music in the order it was meant to be heard. There isn't a song on this record that I'd delete from my iTunes playlist. And even though today "G.I. Blues" might sound a bit corny, when I hear it, I'm back in high school and I still enjoy the heck out it. And if you're into Elvis ballads, the often overlooked "Pocket Full of Rainbows" is one of his best. "Didja' Ever" is my second favorite song here. It doesn't make those repackages, maybe it's because of the marching music, but I love the lyrics and I get a lot of them days, didja ever get one of them? And didja ever hear music so good? And, of course, there's a real rocker here, too. Listen to "Blue Suede Shoes," you'll know what I mean.

FANTASTIC SOUND,

This re-issue of the G I BLUES soundtrack is the best ever. The sound quality is the best and RCA has gone to the limit on this one. On 26JAN10, RCA released seven other soundtracks along with this one and all have the same fantastic sound. Those titles were GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS; FUN IN ACAPULCO; VIVA LAS VEGAS; ROUSTABOUT; GIRL HAPPY; FRANKIE AND JOHNNY and CLAMBAKE. I would highly recommend all of them.

His best soundtrack from the 1960's,
By A Fan (VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: G. I. Blues (SHM-CD) (Audio CD)
This was one of Elvis' biggest hit albums, staying at number 1 on the US album chart for 8 weeks. It did this despite not producing a big hit single in the US (although "Wooden Heart" was a huge hit internationally, it never charted in the US). In my opinion, it is his best 1960's movie soundtrack (though not quite as good as some of his groundbreaking 1950's soundtracks). "Shopping Around" is an underapreciated rocker and I also really liked "Pocket Full of Rainbows" and "GI Blues". It is a shame that this CD has to be imported. A superior collection of early 60's pop and rock!

It includes several bonus tracks not included on this release.

Takes Me Back 40 Years,
By
This review is from: G.I. Blues ( Elvis Paper Sleeve Collection Mini LP 24 bit 96 khz ) (Audio CD)
During the mid 1960s I owned every Elvis record available. My favourite was GI Blues. Having this CD, with the cover being identical to that of the vinyl record, takes me back 40 years. The quality of the recording was excellent and I would recommend it to any Elvis afficionado.

Great Soundtrack,

This may be a little corny, but I am an old man now. When I was in the service in 1968. I was in basic training and on one of our roadtrips I sang "Didja Ever?" with the troops in the back of our truck. I sang the Elvis part and the rest of the men sang the chorus. Yes it actually happened. It's a great Album and it holds great memories for me.

I fell Didja ever was the icing on the cake for both film and soundtrack a great elvis song, shows us the real elvis who likes to get a steady beat in his song that can also let people associate with the song, getting up and no hot water from the taps. Elivs is still the greatest

Extreme Elvis,

As an avid Elvis Fan, I have loved this movie since the first time I saw it. As with all of Elvis' music, you hear it, and get straight into it, and just can't get enough. Didja Ever would have to be my favorite, because I see it as a typical Elvis song, and everything about it, has the sign of a great Elvis song. Would just like to thank my Dad for ever making me listen to Elvis.

One Of The 1st Elvis Albums I Ever Played.,
By
This review is from: G.I. Blues [Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
G.I. Blues although very pop influenced album I still love it. This was one of the 1st Elvis albums I ever listened to. This album along with "Elvis' Golden Records Vol. 1" and "Blue Hawaii" were the albums that introduced me to Elvis. "G.I. Blues" has a lot of good songs to offer. Starting 1st with the title track. Very catchy tune and great lyrics. "The frauleins are pretty as flowers but we can't make a pass." "Cause they're all wearin' signs saying keep off the grass." A bit of a sexual innuendo but worded in a very tongue-in-cheek manner. "Shoppin' Around" is probably one of my favorite Elvis songs period. It's a fast paced rocker, again w/ very good lyrics. I also enjoyed the re-remake of "Blue Suede Shoes." The different guitarwork makes it more enjoyable than Elvis' original version. "Didja Ever" is another good track on this album, that I can personally relate to. The only track I really don't like (and I would rate as probably one of Elvis' worst songs inhis catalogue) is the Um-Pa-Pa sounding "Wooden Heart." Elvis' voice sounds like he's been castrated and the accompanying instrumetns sound like a bad polka band. I'm sorry but this is Elvis Presley the "King of Rock 'n' Roll" NOT Frank Yankovic the "King of Polka!" Overall not a bad album some low points, but a lot of good stuff too. If some songs were excluded from this album like "Wooden Heart" and "Big Boots" then I would rate this album 5/5 but instead I give it a 4/5. Still overall a good album and one I would still recommend to Elvis fans.
