3.0 out of 5 stars Yo Joe?, June 29, 2009

This review is from: G.I. Joe (Paperback)
Watch out folks, there Be Spoilers a Brewin here....

I'm not a HUGE fan of GI Joe, I went to the dark side of Star wars and Star Trek. But I do understand the concept and know the characters, i've even watched some of the cartoons.
The thing is, I needed more info before I started this one. The book starts off assuming you know who the characters are right off (Telling you later who they are and backgrounds). Just starting the book it felt like I had jumped into the middle of the book, it didn't FEEL right.

The plot is nothing new (for such a hyped movie) bad guy wants to take over world with weapons, good guys save the day. What? The bad guy is a former lover? OH NO! The plot twists that are thrown in here, I saw them coming a mile away, as would anyone. Typical movie staples all of them. Again, nothing new here.

My major problem was cutting the scenes for a character to have a 10 page flashback....give me the cliff notes version and go back to kicking butt please. Also, they add the lassic cartoon lines in here, and they sound so stupid. Back in the day it was cool, now you read it and roll your eyes going "Did he really just say that?"

That and Ripcord...He is the Jar Jar Binks of the book, half way through I was hoping he would die. He always has a smart remark to everything...EVERY THING. It gets really annoying after a while, why the JOEs would add him to their team is beyond me, not enough comedy relief already I guess.

The ending was the best part, the last two chapters are what really had me into the story, and the end.....Totally open to a sequel, but we say that coming already...Right?
