2009 IDW series from original G.I. Joe writer Larry Hama,
By
This review is from: G.I. Joe: Origins Vol. 1 (Paperback)
This trade paperback collects the first five issues of the 2009 IDW series "G. I. Joe Origins". It features writer Larry Hama of the classic 1980's Marvel Comics series "G. I. Joe: A Real American Hero" and retains both the familiar characters and continuity. Hama shows the origins of key Joe members like Duke, Scarlett and Snake Eyes as they face the chillingly nihilistic Chimera and his band of anarchists. This TPB also collects the multiple covers from each of the five comic books. Mike Hawthorne's artwork and Andrea Devito's vividly colorful covers are consistently excellent through this run. IDW has flooded the marketplace with several G.I. Joe titles in advance of the summer 2009 movie. I enjoyed this "Origins" series better than IDW's "main series" and recommend this to fans of the old Marvel book.

Why is Roadblock called Heavy Duty?,

This review is from: G.I. Joe: Origins Vol. 1 (Paperback)
This is a really great series, a bit more grusome than some of the original Larry Hama comic books but excellent nonetheless. Regardless of how much I like this graphic novel I can't get over the fact that they renamed Roadblock "Heavy Duty." Uh.....Why???! Why and how can you change such a major character?
I still have to give this series all of it's stars because it was so refreshing to read after that miserable, train-wreck of a movie "Rise of the whatever..." Buy it and enjoy it, just bring some white-out and a pen (ah, Roadblock once again).

This was an a very well done origin story that weaved in the original characters nicely. I'm still confused about Heavy Duty versus Roadblock. Are they the same guy? If so, why the name change? Either way, great story AND art!!
