5.0 out of 5 stars 80s women's wrestling...gotta love it!, January 5, 2004
By
Lord Darkseid (Biloxi, Mississippi United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: G.L.O.W. Vol. 2: The Saga Continues (DVD)
Women's wrestling wasn't at its finest here. There were some serious women wrestlers in the 80s outside of GLOW that knew how to wrestle really well like Candi Devine, Wendi Richter, Monster Ripper, etc... But this show in particular was more of a "comedic" approach to wrestling. There were some really good matches from time to time. Tina Ferrari (now known as Ivory in WWE) is one of the stars that does have some wrestling talent and she is one of the better GLOW girls. But onto the review of this volume 2 (based on the video not the dvd).

Here are the matches on the tape: 1) Olympia vs Jungle Woman (2) Americana vs Spanish Red (joined in progress- why they didn't start from the beginning...beats me) (3) Corporal Kelly & Attache vs Tara and Scarlet the Southern Belles (4) Chainsaw & Spike vs Debbie Debutante & Susie Spirit (5) Colonel Ninotchka vs Little Feather (6) Ninotchka follows up and takes on Ebony (7) Sally the farmer's daughter vs Palestina and (8) Matilda the Hun w/ Hollywood & Vine vs Mountain Fiji and Little Fiji. Unlike volume one, this tape will feature the comedy skits, mini rap sessions and the popular glow girls theme song opening. Like I said in my other review, its a great video or dvd to have in your collection if you like women's wrestling and just enjoy being entertained. The jokes are really corny and the rap is cheesy, but ...I just LOVED this show when it came out. I was just a kid like 9 or 10 years old at the time, but these girls were awesome to me. Watching the tapes takes me back in time, and if you like watching pretty girls wrestle each other, you can't go wrong. check it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars About what I expected, November 13, 2004

This review is from: G.L.O.W. Vol. 2: The Saga Continues (DVD)
Back in the '80s, women's wrestling was quite popular. You could be channel surfing on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and come across quite a few different shows. Some were really good, but I don't imagine we'll ever see those on DVD. Out of all of them, G.L.O.W. was probably the worst, with wrestling that was so fake that it was really more of a comedy than a wrestling show. However, like most things in popular culture, something that was pretty bad in the '80s seems pretty good now. The girls are really gorgeous, and...um...well...did I already say the girls are gorgeous? Real, pretty girls, no quintuple-D implants or hideous tattoos. The wrestling is every bit as silly as I remember it - the Hollywood and Vine vs. Mount Fiji match is utter comedy, but what the hey, it's entertaining. There's lots of rapping, and a lot of comedy skits, and David McLean with his goofy commentary during the matches. I would much rather watch fake wrestling that at least looks real, and skip all the stupid comedy stuff, but since there's nothing like that available on DVD, I'm happy to at least have this. It's a nice little slice of the '80s, and there are women sort of "wrestling", so I don't see how I can give it less than 4 stars. Picture quality on this DVD is certainly not very impressive, which is to say that it doesn't look any better than it probably looked on TV. Not any worse either, but don't expect to use the 4X zoom feature on your DVD player to much effect.

To sum up, I've already ordered volume 1 and I'm sure I'll have to get volume 3 as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comparing The DVD To The Previous VHS Release, May 5, 2005

This DVD was previously released on VHS in 1986. The picture is a bit darker than the original videotape, the audio was turned up a bit too loud, and there are faint picture rolls throughout that were not in the tape. All minor video and audio defects were in the original VHS release. By the way, all three GLOW DVDs contain the same slideshow and promo bonus features.

5.0 out of 5 stars great wrestling, February 5, 2006

This review is from: G.L.O.W. Vol. 2: The Saga Continues (DVD)
I have to admit, these girls r really hot. The GLOW girls weren't the best wrestlers but most of the girls didn't have any muscle to begin with. Their bodies are all natural, no fake boob jobs like the girls of WWE Raw. The only girls who had any major muscle was Olympia, Tina Ferrari, & Star (the girl from the Cosmos). The choreography isn't over the top and calculated crap u see with men's wrestling today. And these girls knew how to act and truly play out their stereotypical roles. They really made u feel like they were fighting for real. And it wasn't all soap operaish like WWE Raw. Season 3 and 4 was more comedic, had better wrestling, but they didn't have alot of personality or energy to stir up the crowd like in season 1 & 2. Matches on this DVD: Olympia vs. Jungle Woman, Palestina vs. Sally, The Mean Marines (Attache/Corporal Kelly) vs. The lovely Southern Belles(Scarlet/Tara), Hollywood & Vine vs. Mt. Fiji, Spanish Red vs. Americana, Ninothcha vs. Ebony
