George Bell "George Bell" (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: G Marks the Spot (Audio CD)
I first saw these guys in New York two years ago where they blew me away with their "JOB" play. I just caught their show "Hip-Hop 4 Dummeez" in Toronto and bought the CD. I have to say, not only is this lyrically one of the most inspiring albums I've ever heard (I don't know how they come up with this stuff!) but the music is extraordinary (I wasn't necessarily expecting that). For someone who never bought a hip-hop album in his life, this was a great way to start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply PERFECT!!!, May 9, 2005
This review is from: G Marks the Spot (Audio CD)
Clever; from the first lyric to the very last. Not to mention catchy; from the first sound to the very last. This is truly a rare masterpiece. It resonates the same qualities as the greatest works of the musical artform in the history of mankind. One thing that makes it so great is its underlining unity. The unified concept. A progressive, evolutionary message, hidden, ever do subtlely, in the metaphoric web of humour and wit. What is the perfect Hip Hop album? What is a timeless Hip Hop album? Lift off, move your body, and find out by purchasing this (no adjective could do it justice) album. Spot the G and stimulate yourself...

5.0 out of 5 stars <<<GREAT ALBUM>>>, May 1, 2005
This review is from: G Marks the Spot (Audio CD)
I just recently purchased this album, and i was so impressed i wanted to share my thoughts with as many people as possible. First off i never heard any other HIP HOP artist(s) even remotely come close to how these guys use the english language in there raps. So clever. you have to just read the album lyrics as you listen and you'll see what i mean. Also the music was really good. Very versatile. I love the way there is alot of different genres. If you haven't heard or seen these guys you have to get this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars An eccentrically-fresh hip-hop album from the Montreal Duo, April 19, 2005
This review is from: G Marks the Spot (Audio CD)
"G Marks the Spot" is one of the freshest, most eccentric, and funniest albums that I have heard in a long time. First, to picture who the Grafenberg All-Stars are, imagine a young, lean version of Tenacious D performing top notch hip-hop dressed as OutKast in their wildest outfits. VowelMovement and Bushman are funny, irreverent, and can rap with the best of them.

Now on to the album. I can imagine that it might turn off some people on first listen because it's so eclectic. The songs range from a Middle-Eastern beat on the club hit "Feel That Hump" to a Latin groove on "Weed Ho's Placebos" to a smooth ballad on "Sure It's Love". However, once you get the concept, you realize that the album is a journey through various genres by outrageous MCs. Also, it's very very funny. I am not sure I made myself clear - it's hilarious! One song, "Gidget the Midget" is about dating a porn-star midget. In reality, it's more about rhyming words that end with "idget" as fas as possible.

Bushman and VowelMovement have appeared in other settings before - both theater and comedy. However, "G Marks the Spot" is a must-have musical masterpiece that I would recommend to anyone!
