I recently purchased a Gmax GM54 Helmet so this wireless brake light kit was very appealing. Despite other reviews, I found the install very easy. I did get a copy of the wiring diagram for my bike (2006 Yamaha Vstar XVS1100 Classic) so I could verify which wires on the rear wiring harness I needed to use during install. I chose to remove the blades from the harness and direct solder the sending unit for the cleanest install (and easy removal if I chose so later). Just two wires and you're done.

The helmet install was even easier. Remove the single screw for the battery compartment after sliding back the cover (it doesn't come all the way off, so don't slide it too much!). Disconnect the existing light wiring from the battery pack (no need for a seperate battery pack as another review mentioned - if your helmet already has an LED light, then you already have the battery pack - if no light then you shouldn't be buying this kit) next remove the vent covers on either side of the existing light, then remove two more tiny screws and then put the new light in place, put back the two tiny screws, snapp the vent covers back on, find the wire you fished through the helmet and plug it in to the battery pack. Replace the battery cover and single screw and you're done!

Great product, extra lighting really stands out, several people stop and comment any time I ride at night.

Also, I have my unit connected to my Kuryakyn run-turn-stop controller with flasher, so the helmet LED light also flashes three times along with the rear lights when I stop - gets even more attention.

I would rate this item as a five if it came with installation instructions. After almost botching it, I went on the internet and found the following link that helped tremendously. After completing the installation it all seemed logical, but at the time was terribly frustrating. I'm posting the YouTube link that has the heading of 'Gmax GM54 How To Replace Batteries, Battery Pack and L.E.D. Assembly.mp4' [...]. The item does what it says in the advertising and is a definite plus these days when car drivers tend to ignore or not see motor cyclists.

I love this product, and the end result is exactly what I hoped for. That said, I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 for a few reasons.

1. The plastic side-clips that hold on the LED cover & button are not secure enough. They need to design this so that these clips are stronger, with less wiggle room. If I slide the cover around, one or the other side pops off. Once it's installed, the vent covers seem to help hold it all in. But I'm going to need to reinforce these with rubber cement. I may write to the company about this design flaw as well.

2. The instructions that are available on the back of the package need to be updated. OK, they kind of stink. The transmitter shipped with yellow(+) & white (ground) wires - the instructions reference red & black. D'oh! Thankfully, they posted some installation videos on YouTube but I had to search to find them. There is also a "how to pair" video that was very helpful (again, nowhere on the package did they mention how to pair the transmitter & receiver). I would have been lost on this installation had it not been for these videos.

3. The wire splicing clips they provide are not great quality (plastic is too soft). Go to an electronics shop and get better ones. You certainly don't these things popping open while you're riding. :O

Also, if you're doing a self-installation, make sure to have a wire tester on hand (not expensive) so you can determine which wire is for the tail light, which is for the brake light (this is the one you want), and the ground wire. Have spare fuses around as well, in case one blows out. I also double-stick taped my transmitter down so it doesn't bounce & rattle around back under the seat.

The product itself, the light kit, was easy to install, thanx to Leon's youtube video recommendation. The only problem I had, was that nowhere did I see or read that you ALSO have to PURCHASE a Battery Pack Kit, for the light assembly to plug into. Now I have to order that also and wait for that to arrive. Thought I was getting a complete Brake Light Kit. Seems somewhat deceptive.
UPDATE - finally got bike in for 5K check, had transmitter wired in by dealer - WORKS GREAT!! Even the mechanics at the Harley dealership asked me where I got the Light Kit....told them Amazon...so, if it's increasing visiblity to the 'cagers' then it's a good thing!!! I would recommend!!

Why it needs to work that far away I can't tell you. There is a very slight lag between the time you squeeze the brake lever and the brake light coming on the bike an the brake light coming on the helmet. That's ok though because I think it garnishes more attention that way. It is very visible. EXCELLENT purchase. Install was pretty simple. on the VN750 Vulcan the Black/yello wire was ground and the blue wire is the brake light. I hooked the transmitter just BEFORE the snap connector to the brake light under the seat.

This product was a little tedious to install, but works just as advertised. Having been hit by cars while riding my motorcycle, I really like the idea of making myself as visible as possible, this product goes a long way toward accomplishing that. My biggest complaint? G-Max should make this standard on their helmets!
