The color of the watch band: BlackVerified Purchase
This watch is basically the same as the GA1000-1A. Many good reviews there so I'll just note the differences that I've found. The face of the watch has more black than the GA1000-1A, and has a nicer band which makes it a bit heavier.

On the downside it's battery powered. If it had tough solar power and Atomic timekeeping it would be perfect! Still my favorite G-Shock so far.

This is a robust and amazing watch. Tough movt, atomic and tough solar aside, this watch has its own plus points to meet my own requirements, at least.

- It's analog-digital, you get the best of both world. Perhaps that's why it is not compatible to tough movement.
- It's stealthy black, color for those who man enough.
- It has compass, a must-have requirement for me. Thermometer is a bonus.
- FC resin bracelet is awesome. Heard the bracelet itself can cost you up to $80. Got this watch at $216 so it's a bargain to me.
- UV black light is another plus point. Maybe that's why it can only live with batteries. Once in a while go to Service Center to have a 'checkup' should not be an issue. At least to me.

Enuf said. This watch is awesome. It is a keeper. You wont regret it.

Needing reading glasses more and more with age, and a nice clear analog makes a difference. I find digital displays to be difficult to read. While I also have a couple tritium lit watches, this GA1000 I find to be even easier to read in the dark with the UV light. Number 1 thing I want in a watch is to be easy to read the time, whenever, and this fits the bill for me nicely.
Number two, I want it to survive. Have had this watch for about 10 months now, and haven't had any issues. Has been banged around a bit in travel and DIY work. Drowned more than a few times in water. And it has had it's share of dirty, dusty, and sandy environments. Everything works and looks fine.

I like that it is simple to set another timezone, and then easily have the analog hands reset to one or the other. Nice when travelling,,, push one button to get into World Time Mode, then push the top buttons together at once, and the two timezones you have set will swap. Sorta fun to see the analog hands turning to the new time,,, but mostly it is real nice when traveling, to be easily set in your new time zone.

The composite link band on the FC model is a lot nicer than the plastic bands. Sized it once and has been great everyday since. Have not found it to be cumbersome, nor to grab or catch onto anything (I used to hate some link bands for grabbing the hair on my arms years ago). The FC band also looks a bit classier for business usage.

I could wish for one of Casio's Tough Solar movements in it, tho so far the batteries haven't needing replacing. No doubt the batteries will begin to fail on me at the worst time, following Murphy's Law, so solar would be nice.
Rather wish the lower digital screen, were larger, clearer, and backlit. It is the screen that you use when making adjustments, and viewing some alternate data like alternate timezone time and date. On that tiny screen, some things like the DST indicator are super tiny, and other things are usually small enough and without enough contrast to still be tricky for me to read.

Yes Casio has some 'higher end' G-Shock analog watches that look similar, that even have solar and atomic settings. They cost near 2x more, however, they are missing the UV light function that I really find great for night usage. Maybe by the time I need the replace the batteries on this one, Casio will have come out with something like this watch, with the few tweeks I'd like to see. I'd pay double for that, but not double for the current offerings that miss out on one of my favorite functions.

This G-Shock GA-1000FC-1ACR Aviation Series watch is top-class. Beautifully constructed from high-quality materials, the GA-1000 is a ruggedly tasteful tool watch, one of Casio's new elite models which combine luxury and dependable utility. Equipped with an accurate compass and a thermometer in addition to the best Casio features--world time; five alarms; stopwatch and timer--this watch lacks solar charging capability, but instead features most impressive luminosity and a unique ultraviolet backlight that puts other G-Shocks in the shade (blue and green indices and green hands that look really wild and are visible in all conditions). The "fine resin composite band" is a massive improvement over standard Casio resin straps, which are actually quite rigid by comparison. In fact, this new-design resin hinged bracelet is one of the most comfortable I have ever worn, and it is meaningfully lighter than Casio's excellent stainless steel version. This watch has great presence on the wrist, with a superb three-dimensional dial that has real depth--you will not be disappointed.

The color of the watch band: BlackVerified Purchase
I've bought many G-Shock watches, looking for the perfect match of beauty and function, and I have finally found it. This is a most attractive model, with a curved crystal that looks more classy than the usual flat face. Much has been said of the metal link band, and for good reason. No cheap plastic on this watch. The most dramatic feature is the blue and green lighting, which is a joy to behold. The compass and thermometer have a dedicated button, and are easy to use. Even if you don't need these features for your job, it's nice to have. The display is simple and attractive, and lacks the useless garish 'bling' on many other watches. The hands and numbers are large and easy to read, perfect for those like me with middle-aged eyesight. The lower digital displays add a nice design touch, but the markings and indicators are too small to be of any practical value. Some people complain that the digital readout is not illuminated, but who needs to check the date in the middle of the night? The only thing needed to make this watch perfect is solar power. That way you won't have to be concerned about running down your battery while playing with the neon lights.

Great watch. Great price from amazon. Love the composite band. Spring loaded links so you can adjust the band easily. Perfect fit and comfortable. Face not too big even with thin wrists. Looks fantastic. Love the neon illumination really makes it stand out.

I'm a big fan of G-Shock watches, and I especially like their aviation-themed offerings. This is a big watch, with lots of presence, and I love it. I chose this model because the prices on this version with the bracelet are so affordable right now. I also love that you can see the time from any mode. But the ultimate feature of this watch is the uv light that reacts with the features on the dial and the hands for a unique light appearance that you just have to see to appreciate. I highly recommend this watch.

The color of the watch band: Black
I researched this watch for some time before deciding to buy it. I have had this watch for a few weeks now and I love it. The new resin bracelet is probably cheaper than the old metal ones, but it is lighter and seems like it may end up being more durable/showing wear slower. Time will tell on that one. I love the ani/digi look to this watch. Casio left the second hand on this one and blended the digital display in nicely so that it doesn't take away from the look of the watch. This watch is sporty but can be dressy as well. All functions work well on this watch and the digital allows for the stopwatch and timer to work while the hands still show the correct time. The light is second best in my opinion to the gwn1000c and the prw6000 which light up both the digital and analog display. However, the uv light is awesome; bringing plenty of light to see the hands in total darkness, even when no glow is left on the hands. I am only giving this watch four stars because it is priced pretty high for having neither solar nor atomic functions.I love the atomic solar aviation watches, but none with those features have any light at all. I don't know why Casio doesn't change this, but I hope they do sometime soon in the future. I hope this was helpful and if anything changes or should be noted I will update this review.

Absolutely love the watch with the adjustable resin band. I'm not one to leave reviews so that should tell you how much I like this watch. I picked this watch specifically because I dislike digital watches but I wanted something rough enough to take my abuse and that would like up to view in limited visibility.

Band adjusted (removing links) without too much difficulty. Just be careful not to allow the push pins to fly away (ask me how I know). Just use a paperclip to push the pin down, and slowly twist the link until the pin comes free (it wants to fly).

You can choose to either have the watch illuminate when you twist your wrist to see the time or by manually pressing the button. The auto mode will of course drain your batteries faster than usual so don't complain when you must exchange your batteries every six months if you elect this option.

Programming seems overwhelming at first but after you go through a couple sequences, everything comes natural. Good job Casio. The manual sent with the watch is way too small for my 50 year old eyes so I downloaded the manual to my computer and iPad for larger print. I think everything else has been mentioned in other reviews so good luck. I'm very happy with my choice.
