The GWA-1000 is my favorite among the Casio Aviators. It has all the standard Solar Atomic virtues [syncs with the six broadcasting atomic clocks in the US, Europe, Japan and China...Europe and Japan have two] and is a nice deep chocolate brown. It lacks the sapphire, unscratchable crystal of the A1100 series, and has a temp sensor rather than a compass, but it has two compensating virtues: (1) the band is extremely comfortable, one of the most comfortable I have encountered (2) the hour, minute, and second hands strike the markers exactly [on the four models of the watch that I have]. It's a great watch when you don't need something really dressy, but want an analog.
This is a great watch, easy to program, easily read dial, and very easy to adjust the band. The only negative is that although the dial and hands are luminous, they must be exposed to a very bright light and do not hold their glow very long. If you must view this watch at night or in the dark, buy a Casio with a light. I am a huge fan of Casio watches (16 and counting) and I will admit I cannot give them a bad review. See my other reviews for Casio watches.
Waited a month for this review to give accurate description. Watch is excellent! All features as described work well. You have to read manual to learn functions but not overbearing. Fit and comfort of the watch is excellent, thought size of watch would be an issue with me but after couple of hours wearing it you forget it's there. Several compliments on it because of its color, very subtle and classy color but modern. GPS version was the other choice but not available in this color, I travel multiple time zones and a GPS time correction would be nice not to have to change my location manually but not a deal breaker. No light on this watch, thought that would be a potential problem but not so far. This watch is used for my work and after investigating for couple of months on aviation watches I believe this is the best bang for the buck, ( retails for $650, paid just over $300 for it). I think G-shock did a good job with this model, they have a wide range of watches from inexpensive to over $1100, more features more money you decide what you need. The GWA-1000FC-5A is a keeper for me, very happy with the watch. Other watch I use is a Rado for suits and meetings.
I have had this rugged watch for several months now and am generally pleased. First, it's a big watch. If you have small wrists you may want to consider that. However, despite its size, it's very comfortable to wear and feels quite secure on your wrist. The time keeping is extremely precise. Take it out of the box and the watch does the rest setting itself automatically. It never needs adjustment of time, day or date, for any reason including going to DST. I couldn't award the 5th star only because the luminescent hands and face are not very luminescent. Even after lengthy exposure to sunlight they only stay bright for a very short period of time. After that the watch is difficult to read in the dark and there is no other way to illuminate the face. That could be a problem with just my watch, however. It was not a big enough deal for me to return or exchange it. Although, Amazon is the best in that regard. All in all a great watch especially at Amazon's current price.
Gorgeous watch!! Designed beautifully, materials are high quality - only missing a nightlight / backlight. Luminescent hands do not glow enough. No button push will illuminate, so you're in the dark. Hard to believe with all the focus on technology put into these new designs and improvements they left this out - a major oversight in my estimation - so, only 4 stars. Everything else is superb - it's quite thick and large - but very lightweight and feels nice.
Perfect watch for someone who's not trying to show off, but not trying to fly under the radar either. It's got a lot of character. I've worn g-shocks for awhile and love how mature the aviation line is. There's all the class of an analog watch, and all the function of a digital, wound up in one, bulletproof, beautiful time piece.
Feels great on wrist, accurate, highly shock resistant, waterproof tough solar movement watch.worth the price only thing that is missing and it's a bit shame is backlight.Luminous hands can be hard to read in dark but if you look really close then you'll find out what time is it :D
