2.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Purchase, July 13, 2011
This review is from: G-U-M Canker-X Pain Relief Gel, Canker & Mouth Sore, Maximum Strength (Health and Beauty)
I am giving this product a 2 star review. The first start is because the product only deserves 1 star. The second star is so you can understand how serious I am about how bad this product is.

This product makes 3 claims on the front of the box: Fast pain relief, Protective barrier promotes healing, and Lasts for hours. It does none of those things. In fact, it provides no pain relief, creates no protective barrier and, therefore, doesn't last at all because it did nothing.

It has a 100% Money Back Guarantee, which forces you to jump through a lot of hoops, but it was worth it to let them know how bad their product is.

If you really want a protective barrier that lasts, go with Zilactin, which I have since rediscovered.

The ONLY conceivable reason to purchase this product is if you are allergic to benzocaine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible, useless, a complete waste of money, November 30, 2010
This review is from: G-U-M Canker-X Pain Relief Gel, Canker & Mouth Sore, Maximum Strength (Health and Beauty)
I'm going to keep it simple. It just doesn't work. It doesn't do ANYTHING that the manufacturer claims on the box. Not even mildly. As a matter of fact, you'll probably end up irritating your canker sore even more (happened to me). They do have a "money back guarantee" but, like most money back guarantees, they make you jump through hoops to get your money back, so most people (like myself) probably don't bother.

If you hadn't already guessed, I am PISSED at how horrible this product is, and I feel like I've been swindled by these guys. Let me put it this way: if you've had canker sores, you know how unbearably painful they can be. Now imagine having the most painful canker sore (the kind that makes you want to put gasoline in your mouth and set it on fire), driving to the pharmacy in that condition, going through all the (seemingly promising) canker sore relief products, waiting in line to pay, and then feverishly applying the medicine in hopes for the quick relief that it promises, and then feeling stupid because the product not only didn't work, but irritated your sore even more for some reason. Yeah, that's how I felt.

Canker sores are incredibly frustrating, I've dealt with them for 30 years....when I get them I deploy a full arsenal of remedies at specific times in the healing processs. I wrote this review because so many people were ripping negatively on this stuff because they expected immediate relief and healing.. In keeping your mouth free from canker sores 1)use non-SLS toothpaste (SLS is the foaming agent in toothpastes, which dries out the very thin membrane in your mouth) 2) drip colloidal silver on it 3)take the vitamin Lysine 4) put canker-x on during the day like a light weight bandaid apply regularly 5) if it develops into a bad canker I use one of those disks at night, I use Canker Cover 6) I keep putting colloidal silver on followed by Canker X. I like canker X because it is the only day time way to put a little cover over the canker sore. For anyone looking for a magic bullet to eliminate canker sores, one does not exist, but this product is a good tool in helping your mouth heal and covering the sore during the day to help it heal. Good luck.

I agree with other reviewers that this simply does not work. It does not do anything at all. No pain relief and no protective barrier.
I have been using Zilactin for many years but when I went to the store to get more this Canker-X was all that they had. I will be requesting my money back.
I am back on Zilactin. I have had inner mouth canker's for 20 years and Zilactin is the only product that really puts a protective layer in your mouth that lasts. I usually rinse my mouth with hydrogen Peroxide many times a day and put Zilactin on at night when I go to bed so the sore has many hours to heal without the normal days activities of eating, talking that can irritate the sore.

4.0 out of 5 stars Painless Application / Good Taste / Wears Off Quickly, October 16, 2007
I have chronic canker sores. The shame! An inheritance from my father and too much coffee drinking.

This stuff is helpful, especially if you are NOT about to eat or drink for an hour or so. If your canker sores are really painful, like mine (which are the size of Cape Fear), your best bet is to use those canker sore disks they sell--applying them overnight. This product tastes good and feels good, and you can apply again and again without unsightly gummy stuff in your mouth.

Canker X is canker good.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless Junk. Don't waste your money, October 14, 2009
This review is from: G-U-M Canker-X Pain Relief Gel, Canker & Mouth Sore, Maximum Strength (Health and Beauty)
I get canker sores a few times a year. I bought Canker-X at a department store after reading the label. I wanted something that produced a protective "layer" over the canker -- which the label indicated it would.

The product is a gel that you spread over the canker sore. Then it states to leave it alone for 2 minutes and not to eat or drink for an hour. The gel itself doesn't contain any ingredients to actually numb the pain, but I was hoping the "layer" would protect the ulcer from getting irritated during the day. Sadly, the gel did not do this at all.

After applying the gel, I held my mouth in the open air for two minutes so the so-called protective layer could form. Then I slowly closed my mouth and kept it very still for another 15 minutes or so. I didn't eat or drink. However, as soon as I closed my mouth, I tasted the gel and within a few minutes it was gone and my canker was hurting and irritated just as if I hadn't applied anything.

The next time I applied the gel, I held my mouth open for 3 or 4 minutes to let it "work", and then I closed my mouth very carefully and kept it still -- no talking or eating. Again, the gel was gone in minutes and the canker was hurting and irritated. I looked in the mirror and felt the canker with my finger. No protective layer.

I decided to figure out how this "protective layer" was supposed to work. So I put some gel on my finger and let it just sit there for many minutes. Then I carefully wiped across my finger and the gel just came right off. I ran a little water over the spot and it all washed away. There was nothing on my finger at all.

This is a totally worthless product. Laughably bad, in fact -- almost to the point that I think it must be a joke. I've used a lot of products that at least numbs the pain, but this does absolutely nothing. Rather baffling.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Packaging EVER!, January 1, 2012
This review is from: G-U-M Canker-X Pain Relief Gel, Canker & Mouth Sore, Maximum Strength (Health and Beauty)
Great product, but the tube it comes in is completely useless. I have yet to actually use up an entire tube of this stuff. Everytime half of it ends up oozing out into my pocket because the useless cap doesn't screw or clip on the tip. It just falls right off! The second I find out somebody has ripped off this product's recipe and put it in a sensible container I'm switching for good. How hard is it to make a tip that screws on! Really!
