G. A. Albrethsen was born in Provo, Utah. He has lived most of his life in the Pacific Northwest, along with several years in Orange County, California.
He is married with two sons, both college age. From 1998-2012, he published or co-published two to three small weekly newspapers. Before that, he worked for county and state governments as a caseworker for welfare programs.
Thanks largely to an LDS church mission, he speaks Spanish and has many ties to the Hispanic culture. Sopes, Tinga and other Mexican dishes are among his favorite foods, with homemade chicken and noodles and pizza close behind. Chocolate, pudding, and ice cream are his culinary kryptonite.
He has traveled throughout the West Coast and Mountain West, with forays into Texas. His favorite trips, however, have been to Aztec and Mayan ruins throughout central Mexico, the Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
Aside for a passion for writing and traveling, he likes to: read (current events, technology, fiction, scripture), draw, watch college football and basketball, bowl, and drive cars, mainly of the sport and muscle variety.
