I purchased the Portable Dashboard Friction Mount for my Garmin nuvi GPS because it can be easily put in place and removed with no mechanical hassle. The GPS bracket is included, so I don't need to remove the bracket from my other car when I move the GPS. It leaves no trace that would attract a thief who might break in to my car looking for a GPS in my glove compartment. It also looks like it would fit on top of the dashboard of any car I might rent while traveling.

The tradeoff is that the heavy, bulky base is not conducive to packing in a carry-on bag. This friction mount, though smaller than the Garmin beanbag style, is still pretty massive. Also, it places the GPS higher above the dashboard than a windshield suction cup or a dashboard vent mount. The higher mounting location blocks a more important spot in my field of view. One of our two cars is a sporty model with a raked-back windshield. The friction mount doesn't fit on the dashboard because the top of the bracket bumps against the windshield.

The bottom line: If you want a convenient mount, somewhat portable and/or usable by someone with zero mechanical savvy, this one works.

Bought this after leaving my original windshield suction cup mount in a rental car. I actually like this better. It puts the unit closer to you on cars with a deep dashboard. Makes it a lot easier to reach and see. Stays put, no problems with it sliding around. Only problem I've had is in cars with a very narrow dashboard. If it won't fit, I put it on the passenger seat next to me.

I like the size. It's small enough to easily tuck away and there is enough weight to keep it stable on the dash. Overall, it would have been an excellent product had the bracket mounts better to the ball arm. The ball seems a little oversized to fit into the bracket. I had to wiggle and twist to get the bracket on. The bracket seems to be in place but lacks that "click" feeling when it's mated with the ball. Moreover, with the wiggle and twist motion need to get it mated, the ball looks chewed up. After using it on a drive-around, the bracket seems to hold so decided it's not worth the trouble to return; the bracket comes off easy when trying to make adjustment to the viewing angle.

My boyfriend bought me a Garmin GPS for Christmas since I drive a lot. I have two cars, though, and didn't want a permanent mount in either car. This mount is the perfect solution! I leave the Garmin stuck on the friction mount and move it from car to car. It stays where you put it (in my cars, anyway). If you have a Garmin GPS, you need one of these!

If you take your Garmin with you on trips, this is the ideal dashboard friction mount. No matter what type of terrain I drove on, the unit never budged. It is smaller than the Garmin made mounts and fits easily in your luggage. It left no marks on the dashboard. Really sweet.

This holds the Garmin securely on the dashboard. Lifts off easily for storage. Great accessory.

I love this because it fits perfectly into the space on my dash in my pathfinder! It's the perfect size. It's so much better than having something stuck to the window!
