5.0 out of 5 stars Darrell Bain
I really like these books. Bain's books are fun romps through sci-fi. This is the way Science fiction should be. Darrell Bain and Thomas DePrima are now my two favorite authors. For me they have replaced David Weber and Jim Butcher.

3.0 out of 5 stars So So!!
This book started so well, and then it was rushed. From believable to stupid. How can a huge space battle be described in ten lines...oh they got there & destroyed the UN with their plasma cannons!!
Almost as if the book was written by two authors. What a pity!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fan of classic SF, this is a must read., May 5, 2011

"Starman Jones." "Time for the stars." If those titles stir up fond memories, then read this book. I have found it to be one of Bain's best yet, a classic SF coming of age novel about galactic colonization of the remote frontiers of a future human expansion. Adding tension to this classic formula is the fact that the colonists are essentially breaking off from an increasingly totalitarian government which is dead set on increasing it's control over frontier planets. Individuality, liberty, and self reliance are themes in this Heinlein-esque modern classic. Some of the best SF I've read in years.

5.0 out of 5 stars File has bee fixed., February 23, 2011

The five stars are not a rating since I am the author. I just had to put something down in order for this to be posted. The Second Edition of Galactic Frontiers has had the errors that cropped up removed. It is definitely safe to download. I sent free copies to those who got a bad download but there is no longer a worry.
Darrell Bain.

thanks to author bain i was able to finish the book.... and it was great.... i liked the book so well i couldn't take off a star even though the ending was packed a little too tightly and slightly contrived,,, but there was a great setup for several more books in a series with the added aliens at the end and a continued building up of resistance against the u.n. dictators... i hope author bain takes a look at continuing this book in a series... i would read them...
********** original review
i know, i know, review the book not amazon BUT.... this book file is bad.... it allowed me to read half of the book then error-ed.... the message said 'unable to open book'... thinking i had a bad download i proceeded to delete the book and it locked up my kindle,,, once i rebooted the kindle i could not delete the book.... i had to delete it manually connected to my computer,,,, then it didn't show up in the archive...ok.. so i went to my account and sent it manually.... it showed up ok.... then the same thing happened which caused my ocd to kick in and i tried it several more times.... same issue.... so i tried kindle for pc just to finish the book.... nada.... kindle for pc error-ed saying it could not download the file.... a button below the icon said 'try again' so i pushed that button over and over.... it refused to download so back to my account to send it manually which did NOT work....
*
now i called amazon after arguing that the file was bad for 20 minutes unable to convince the tech that it was NOT a download problem when he left the line.... when he came back he said since others have had the same problem he is kicking it upstairs,,,, what ever upstairs means,,, some amazon idiom meaning he is tired of dealing with me and sent the problem to another person.... so don't buy this book until its fixed.... i hope the author is reading reviews.... it was a good book until then which makes it even more frustrating.... when it will be resolved??? who knows
