Customer Reviews

I got this as a gag gift for my daughter, and she loves it.
Cathy Roberts
It won't fit in the butter dish compartment in my fridge, but it fits nicely in the open egg compartment.
Tilly
When this butter dish is on the counter it looks like a nice accent piece!

This butter dish is great for common, American, 1/4 LB(1/2cup) sticks of butter. These are the most common sticks of butter you'll find at your grocery store. It seems to be sturdy, well made, and cleans up easily in the dishwasher. The underside of the bottom tray is unfinished which may or may not scratch some surfaces(not mine) but it does provide some friction so that it doesn't go sliding all over the counter-top. All in all, I am very happy with this product and would absolutely recommend it to a friend. I tried my best to describe common butter sizes below so that you can determine if your favorite butter will fit or need altered.

This will not fit the 1/2 LB(1cup) sticks of Irish/European butter like the Kerry Gold. Not because the Kerry Gold is too wide but because the Buddah cover is too shallow at a couple of the corners(Budda's elbow and lowered knee). Normal 1/4 LB sticks can be placed in the middle of the tray and are unaffected by the corners but, with the 1/2 LB sticks, the entire inside rim of the tray is full and the cover will ultimately rest on the corner of the butter until it is lopped off.

The bottom tray measures 6.5"x4" with a ring on the inside to mark where the cover will rest measuring 5" x 2 3/8". 1/4 LB butter sticks east of the Rocky Mountains will measure 4.8"L x 1.3"W while those sold west of the Rockies will measure 3.1"L x 1.5"W. Kerry Gold and some other European butters sold in 1/2 LB sizes typically measure 4 1/8"L x 2 3/8"W x 1 7/8"H.

Clever butter dish, but the base is very porous on the bottom, and gets moldy in a short time. Not crazy about that 'feature'.

I've never reviewed a product on Amazon before, but this little guy is so cool I couldn't resist. "Buddah-Butta", once we got this guy on our table we couldn't stop saying it. Even my three year old twins...

We keep him right next to our "Naughty bunny" salt and pepper shakers. (We got those from shopplasticland.com) Also too funny!

I was worried the dish would be small or cramped for butter, but it holds a stick with lots of room to spare. The only concern about this guy would be break-ability. We've had no trouble but I'd be careful when washing. Anyhoo, way cool and something you and your dinner guests will surely talk about around the table.

The only thing I would change is the width of the "buddah". The sides of the buddah at the point of contact with the base have a concave shape so a full width peice of butter doesn't fit without being trimmed. Other than that, it seems to be of good quality and has been through the dishwasher a few times with no problems.

Both a conversation piece, and quite practical as well. Looks good on the counter.

We're going to be careful about putting it into our dishwasher. We've had problems with china going in there and getting shadows on the surface from liquid forced into microcracks on the glaze.

But really, how often doen a butter dish needs washing? Only enough to maintain Inner Peace!

In the midst of holiday shopping, I saw this item and ordered it for m'self (aka from husband). It was a great surprise to open on Christmas. It's wonderfully bigger than I'd originally guessed, so when there's no butter in Buddha's belly, he sits in the dining room as a small sculpture.

Buddah stays on my counter, the dish is wide and has ample space for butter sticks. I wonder if its not European in make, because its really wide enough for lurpak or kerrygold. Either way, the dish make me smile so its so worth it.

I love this butter dish. It looks so nice in my kitchen, and does the deed of holding my butter at room temperature quite nicely. The only issues I have with it are:

1. It has an obtuse shape, so gripping it is sometimes difficult. Be careful not to drop it.

2. The inside of the lid has many curves and crevices making it a little difficult to wash out.

Other than that, great butter dish.
