We have an 18 foot round Intek pool. This is our 4th year with the pool. The filter that comes with the pool takes the A cartridge, which does not work. We upgraded to the B size and it still was not great. We were so happy to find this filter. After about 1 week we noticed a small amount of water leak from the handle area. Well today, there was a large crack in it. I called the 800 number in the manual. The customer service agent informed me that they did in fact have a bad shipment and it appears that most of the defective models are being reported in PA and NJ. They are sending out a new top for the filter, at no charge of course. Other than the leak which has not caused the filter to be unusable, it works great. The pool water is so clear and I really like that we can hook up an automatic vaccum to it, no more of that junky one that did not do anything and caused the hoses to collapse.

I bought this after reading the leaking review issues and figured I could deal with it or make something work being that its at a good price. The pump works very well. The ring that holds on the lid does leak. I did all i could and sometimes it would only leak a little sometimes it would be a steady stream down the side. Yesterday (4 months since purchase) the hose from the pump to the filter blew out and drained @2000 gal from my pool. Unfortunately my area just raised their water rates too a few days ago so refilling the pool will cost a bit more than before because of this. I will have them replace the hose until I find a replacement and then plan on returning it. I think you have been warned by enough of us with issues of leaking to reconsider this purchase.

This is definitely an an upgrade from the junk Intex pump that came with our 18' round pool. It's quiet, and does a good job filtering. 3/4 hp is all anyone would ever need from most applications. I especially like the adapter kit that lets the Intex hoses mount to the filter/pump without any issues.
I also plumbed this unit up to a solar heater and this is where I run into a few problems. By plumbing the return line to go through 40" of solar blankets, you put quite a strain on the seals and motor. The top gasket leaks a little due to the increased pressure when water is pumped through the blankets. Also the water flow is decreased by about 50%. On the other hand, we have a warm pool. For an Intex pool, I'm not willing to step up to a $700 filter/pump assembly, so I'll deal with a few leaks.

At the beginning of Summer 2011 we pulled our pool out from a two year storage. So no use in the summer of 2010. The top seal on the filter canister completely failed. I lost at least 1000 gallons of water. The problem lies with with the plastic pinch clamp. I believe this is a design flaw with this unit. I've gone through two rubber seals and two clamps. I ended up throwing the whole thing away. Intex now makes a large pump/filter combo that I ended up purchasing. This new unit 2650 Gallon Sand Filter Pump W/GFCI is wolds better.

Needed a better filter for above ground pool. Saw the Aquaquik Universal Pool Filter System at a local pool store. Tried checking it out online, but it hadn't been reviewed yet. My mistake for taking a chance on it. First few days I was ecstatic. Worked like a charm, then reality sunk in. Cheaply made and it began leaking everywhere. First around the hose attachments. I reattached hoses with some sealant and tried again. Next leak is around the top piece which adjusts the water flow (I haven't figured out how to stop that yet). Then it began to leak around the top seal which has a rubber gasket and large clamp mechanism to keep it from leaking. I have tried some sealant around that area and am watching to see if that works. And now this morning I woke up to what I thought was a rain storm, but turned out to be the hose they supply with system cracked and water had been pouring out all night. My pool has lost about half the water. I would try to return it but I also had to purchase about $50. of filter sand. I am going to replace the hose and keep trying, but I am not a happy camper. If I were buying again I would do more research and look for a filter with plenty of good reviews. I've owned the system for approx. 30 days.

Had useless Intex filter on 18' Intex pool and had cloudy water for 2 month with filter running 24/7. Bought this filter at local pool store which was bad because it is way cheaper on Amazon, but the filter had broken parts out of the the box which, thankfully, the pool store swapped out with no problem. It was a pain to assemble and took some major adjusting to stop the big leaks, but in less than 24 hours, my pool is crystal clear. It is even taking the mineral sediment (that the A filter cartridge kept recirculating) out of the water. I still have a small leak from the flow adjustment handle and the hose that flows from the pump to the filter tank. After reading the reviews, I'm very nervous that this thing will self-destruct. The plastic does seem very fragile, so you must be careful when turning the handle. Overall, I'm happy. If it lasts me two more summers, it'll have paid for itself. By the way Amazon, this is not a toy.
