Dont even try using the hose clamps that comes with this or you will be pumping water everywhere except back into your pool.

A chart on the back of the box even admits that it takes one unit 2.9 days of 10 hours of direct sunlight to raise the temp 5 degrees in a pool of 2,086 gallons.
Mike O.
I hope my information might save others all the expense, hassles, returns, and frustration that we went through in our efforts to get our pool REALLY warm.

I bought this mat at K-mart for about $70. I liked the small size compared to the huge 20 foot long
mat I had been using. Neat little 5x5 size.
I no sooner set it up and pop! cheap and poorly made.

SO, HERE IS HOW TO GET REALLY HOT POOL WATER, OR AT LEAST HOW WE DID IT.
MY POOL (8X30) WAS 104 DEGREES IN OUR 100 DEGREE CENTRAL CA HEAT LAST WEEK, NO EXAGGERATION! IT WAS
AS HOT AS A HOT TUB right down to the bottom (30") Of course, during the summer you can just add cold water or not run the filter/pump when it gets too hot for you.

IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT A REALLY WARM POOL, THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR US.
A) DON'T BUY A POOL TOO BIG/DEEP, THE BIGGER THEY ARE, THE HARDER IT IS TO HEAT THEM COMPLETELY. REALLY DEEP POOLS ARE OFTEN COLD AT DEEPER LEVEL.
B) WE BROKE DOWN AND PURCHASED A POOL FILTER/PUMP UPGRADE (2500 GALLONS PER HOUR) FOR $118. THRU SEARS WEBSITE, IT IS A STRONG, SMOOTH RUNNING, EFFICIENT FILTER STRONG ENOUGH TO PUMP THE WATER THRU THE 20 FT SOLAR MAT.
C) GET YOURSELF THE 20FT SOLAR MAT, WE HUNG OURS FROM OUR FENCE TO GET IT UP OUT OF THE WAY. (don't punture the mat, we hung it with strips of wood to support it, nailed to the fence NOT the mat.)
D) HOOK IT ALL UP AND RUN THE FILTER MID DAY WHEN IT IS HOTTEST.

When all was said and done, breaking down and upgrading my filter/pump was exactly what I needed to make the 20ft solar heating mat do it's best work.
We also use a solar blanket on the pool when we are not using it to help keep it warm.
The pool will cool a bit on cooler days, but it is always like the old heated pools of days gone by.
The solar blanket we use is a heavy see-thru blue vinyl.

Set up was fast, conected it in less then 5 minutes. no leaks once the provided clamps where tightened. placed the heater on a pad to prevent damage from the ground 12 foot pool normal cooled to 72 over night heated to 80 in mid afternoon, with the solar heated the pool heats to 86 by mid morning. I could not be more pleased.

This seems to work a bit better than that silly dome. just lay it on the ground in the sun and the water gets warm. this is heavy duty vinyl so very puncture resistant. I can't tell you how many times my dog stepped on it. It seems to work marginally better when its wet. Only thing I may do different this year is get a little heavier pump as the water does travel a fair distance thru the plumbing so pump loses efficiency.

I bought 4 of these at Costco for half what you pay here... After trying the first time, EVERY joint leaked.. Then I bought professional hose clamps and used teflon tape on all threaded fittings, and every joint STILL leaked !!!!!!!!! I even bought a 1/6th HP pump knowing my pool pump had way too much pressure for these but even that proved useless. Dont even try using the hose clamps that comes with this or you will be pumping water everywhere except back into your pool. I would have returned ALL of these if I didnt throw all boxes away the day before i tried the hookup ! This may work for you if you have a TINY Kiddie pool with a very small pump, otherwise, dont get your hopes up !!

I hooked this up and it worked great for four weeks. A small slit at the first seam by the intake formed after 4 weeks. Do not waste your money. For 20 dollars you can buy 20' of corrugated black hose and wind it in a circle for the same effect.
