This review is from: GAYO, A YOUNG PIRATE ON A TREASURE HUNT (Paperback)
I am a yoga teacher for children and have used this book in many classes. It brings adventure to life. The story is interactive and the children really feel drawn to Gayo. He's fun, he's cleaver and he's beleivable. Why do I recommend this book, because of the brillant ideas it brings out for the teachers, the children and families who read together. A must have if you teach Yoga to children. A fun easy way to learn to live your yoga as a child.

Gayo - for all ages!, September 14, 2007
This review is from: GAYO, A YOUNG PIRATE ON A TREASURE HUNT (Paperback)
Can you remember the sound of the sea? Try making a ssssscccchh sound, expelling waves of breath between a narrow gap of teeth. You can almost feel the salty tang on your cheeks. The Ocean's Breath is only one of many delights in Carola Lachmann's 'Gayo: A young Pirate on a Treasure Hunt'. It's billed for all ages and indeed it can be read on many levels - as a fable about finding your inner truth, as a practical manual for learning yoga or simply as a wonderful adventure. Understanding Yoga is the central theme which is described in gorgeous images and sounds as well as words. The insights of yoga, the ability to think like a yogi, as well as to practise the postures, are explored in this fun but profound book.
Gayo (hint: it's an anagram), is a young pirate, who doesn't belong in his rough, raucous world. With the help of a wise bird, KaBah, Gayo learns about Yoga and shows the other pirates how to find their calm and playful centre. They don't catch on at first but Gayo learns to unite his heart and his head through sound and movement. This leads on, with some unexpected twists and turns, to the discovery of an amazing treasure, which cannot be `owned' but has to be shared with the whole world.
Pscyholgists and Psychotherapists are realising the influence the body (and the posture of the body especially)has on emotional and cognitive perceptions. Learning to control the breath, for example, be an important part of many self-help strategies. this book could be an excellent and fun way to learn about differnet ways of breathing.
It has parallels with Paulo Coehlo's story 'The Alchemist', but has many more levels of interactivity. Teachers are already finding it invaluable, as there are many exercises which can be used as `warmers' for classes of all ages. One of its greatest strengths is its ability to unite vision, sound and movement - which is now seen as a cornerstone of a good learning environment.
Children will love and respond to this book. It's highly interactive and invites them on every page to make a sound, practice a yoga posture and draw what they see in the world around them. Adults will love it too. It has so much that can be practically applied in any life, and at any age.
And parents, especially those who have more than one child, will simply have to buy multiple copies. Aaah0oohMmmmh!
