And since information-gathering in corporate espionage is commonly achieved through the trash, the 30S provides greater peace of mind than your ordinary wastebasket. Shredding three to four sheets at a time through a top- loading feeder that's sized for letter-size sheets, the GBC 30S shredder destroys old R&D files, designs, business plans, and board minutes--making them unreadable to anyone else. The reverse mode and thermal overload protection are two additional benefits offered.
Having a personal shredder also provides fringe benefits. Use bags of shredded paper to fill and protect packages in the mail or for storing delicate objects. The GBC 30S shredder is an exceptionally compact and affordable unit, so it is possible for any home or office to have a shredder available. --Barbara Price

Good first shredder - but some issues,

If you're thinking about a shredder, at [a great price] this is a good way to try one. The two quick issues that I have with mine are (1) how noisy it is when operating (though for [the price] I'm willing to put up with the noise) and (2) that it does not cross-cut. That it doesn't cross-cut (makes long diamond shaped scraps of paper), but just cuts strips leads to two issues. The one that other reviewers mention is that it'd be easier for someone to piece together your shredded documents (I wish those people good luck since I shred just about everything now, not just credit card offers and the like, which leads to a ton of paper strips). My main complaint is that these paper strips do not fall to the bottom of a trash can. While the cross-cut pieces are small enough to fall to the bottom unassisted, the long strips tend to brace themselves against the sides of the trash can. Before you know it, the can is overflowing (but far from full) causing the shredder to jam. You just reach into the can and push down the paper that is matted up... but this is a little bit of a pain. And so I end up having to empty the can pretty often. But for [the price]... still hard to beat..

An excellent no frills shredder,
This review is from: GBC 30S Personal Shredder (Office Product)
This is simply an excellent shredder! I've been using it at home to shred documents and after approx 400 pages it is still performing flawlessly. Don't even accidentally put a staple in it though, big mistake. Does not perform well on shredding 2 pages in one piece but then again you should separate every page before shredding anyway.
