The adapter works great for dolphin 3.5, here's a step-by-step guide for how I got everything to work!

1. Download the drivers via the disk given.
2. Plug your controllers into the adapter, then plug the adapter into your PC
3. Use your start menu to search for "Set up USB Game Controllers"
4. You should see your controllers listed, click one and select "Properties"
5. Try mashing a bunch of buttons to make sure your controller is working!
6. Now that we made sure our controllers are connected, go to Dolphin, find Edit -> Preferences
7. Go to Gamecube tab, make your controllers "Standard Controller" for however many you have
8. Close window, go to GC Pad (This should be key bindings page)
9. In the Device dropdown menu, look for your controller(s)
10. Test it out by mashing a bunch of buttons again, if it doesn't work, press refresh/reset.
11. Start binding all your keys (up/down/left/right/abxy/d-pad/c-stick/lrz)
11. To get L and R working normally, change the "Threshold" from 0 to 40
12. To get C-Stick working, change the "dead zone" from 0 to 40
13. Enjoy!

I got this to use with Dolphin and it works perfectly (after a little work).

A lot of people mention issues with the L/R buttons. The L/R buttons on a GC Pad have two functions. The analog function senses how much you are pushing down on the button and the digital function senses when you have pressed down all the way. In the most recent "Official" version of Dolphin the Analog function can read the L/R buttons as always being pressed. However, this is not a problem with the adapter itself. This is an issue with Dolphin. I downloaded a more recent version (a test version more recent than the last official release), and it is working flawlessly. The adapter comes with a driver disk, and after installing it I went to the controller configuration in the control panel and everything registers as it should. In the control pad configuration in Dolphin your digital L/R buttons should show as "4 +" and "5 +" once you set them. The analog settings should read as "4 -+" and "5 -+". If you are getting either "4 -" or "4 +" (with the indicator showing that you are pressing the button even when you're not) for the analog setting then that version of Dolphin isn't going to work perfectly.

Be careful not to give this product a low score just because Dolphin has an issue with it. If everything registers in the control panel as it should, the adapter is working fine.

I recently purchased this adapter and was wary from other reviews, but it has worked extremely well for all purposes so far after a little configuring! I use the adapter for the following 3 purposes on Windows 7 64-bit.

Controllers for Project64 1.6:
Plug the controllers into the adapter BEFORE plugging the adapter into the computer
Go to Devices and Printers, right click on USB GamePad and click Properties. Click Properties on either of the game pads and use the calibration wizard.
During the calibration for "X" and "Y", move L and R trigger in and out without clicking them all the way down (this registers as a digital button press).
You should only have to do this once per machine you use the adapter with. I've found that controllers of various ages respond differently to calibration so remember what port you calibrated which controller on.
Open up Project 64, switch your input plugin to NRAGE if not already using it. You can now configure the controller any way you want. To assign the L and R shoulders as digital buttons, have the trigger clicked in almost all the way when you press the button to assign, and then click in all the way.

Controllers for ZSNES:
Essentially the exact same setup as above, no issues here.

Donkey Kongas with Ableton Live 8:
[...] maps the USB GamePad to keyboard strokes. I mapped the Buttons 1,4,10 to A,S,D on the keyboard and then used Ableton's computer keyboard MIDI function. The controllers trigger sounds with surprisingly low latency. Cannot figure out how to configure the microphone on the controller to trigger sounds.

Hope this helps. There may be some scenarios where configuration is impossible but I have not encountered any yet. It's possible that some PC games (not emulators) may be difficult to set up. Overall the adapter is very responsive (calibration screen is proof) and functions as expected. Considering buying another soon! Four stars instead of five because of the lack of instructions and online support.

Update 6/20/13: Still enjoying this product. It should be mentioned though that it won't power the receivers for wireless GC controllers (Wavebirds) so you cannot use them with this product.

I was skeptical of the other reviews at first, but found that after calibrating the device via the control panel (Start > Set up USB game controllers), everything worked well. I'm not sure if this calibration possible in other operating systems other than Windows. Plays nicely with Dolphin as well.

Works great with dolphin. But as a warning to everyone who isbthinkobg about buying this for Smash 4. This product does not work with Wii U. At least not for Smash 4.

I bought this adapter as a way to play super smash bros on Dolphin. Product works great, very simple and easy setup. Had no issues what so ever.

Works very well, and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in Emulators. I'm glad I found this I was really getting sick of using my keyboard.

I've used this adapter with Dolphin and Windows 8, and I can't get vibration to work with the controller for the life of me. Otherwise the product is fantastic.

DISCLAIMER - This is my first Amazon review, so I'm sorry if I screwed it up at all (somehow). With that out of the way:
I bought this product for one purpose: the Wii U. Had I done a little more research, I would have found that it CANNOT be used with Nintendont (a GameCube loader that even works on Wii U). As I lack a computer powerful enough for GC emulation, I am unable to test my own unit of this product. However, based on the average set by other reviews, I figured that at least the listing itself deserved a decent rating, so as not to disturb that average. Sorry.
