4.0 out of 5 stars Great seat
I'm in the process of restoring a very old canoe and these seats work fantastically. Very easy to adjust and they simply strap onto the existing wicker seating with velcro straps. I know that sounds like a cheap secure job, but the straps are long and strong enough to handle it. I highly recommend these to anyone who just wants a little back support for their canoes...

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs longer straps!
Was hoping to put this on my canoe but the straps aren't long enough to reach around the seat! As it's advertized as a canoe seat I was hoping it would fit and it didn't!

Fisherman, these also have enough give for when you really need to dig back in your pull.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic multi-use item, November 23, 2009

I have the an older version, all one color, and it's an LL Bean model, and I paid more for it than here, but still the basic same.

The split seat really helps it adjust to differing seats if you need it to. I solo trip a lot. My Sit-backer has been a wonderful canoe seat that really helps me spend 12 hours or more on the water if I want to - fishing as well as paddling to get somewhere. It works on the cane seat, and with the spit bottom, it works flat on the bottom of the canoe too against the thwart.

It's also a fantastic camp chair - so I don't have to pack another one.

It's a great portage yoke on my Old Town Pack canoe - I just unstrap it, turn it around, fold it flat, strap it tight, and flip the canoe over onto my shoulders and pack - the sitbacker rest comfortably on my pack. It's basically hands free from that point.

I've used it at sporting events, of course, and it's been a great piece of gear for me for prob. close to 5 years now. will buy another one as needed, definitely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Canoe Seat, February 3, 2009
Seat seems to be very well made. They were very comfortable for the five day canoe trip my son and I just made. My only concern is that the hinges are made of a plastic material and I don't know how long that will last as I am 220 lbs and I like to lean back. The thicker seat cushioning was far better than the Crazy Creek seats we have been using and the back adjustment system was easy and did not require the fiddling that the other seats require during the day. I would buy again and highly recommend them.

4.0 out of 5 stars A major improvement for our canoeing trips!, May 25, 2010
By

After we went on a canoeing trip last Fall and returned with sore lower backs, we decided to invest in some canoeing chairs. These chairs are sturdy, light, and comfortable. There is a velcro strap on the bottom to attach the chair to the canoe seat. The strap felt very secure and there was minimal movement in the seat itself. The net pouch on the back of the chair was perfect for holding water and sunblock. After a 9 mile ride down the Shenandoah our backs we just as fresh as when we started. The only drawback in that the seat frame in the back of the cushion is a little far forward. If you are trying to sit more upright then bar will cut across your bottom, which obviously get uncomfortable after awhile. If, however, you tend to lean back more (the rear canoe person is more likely to sit in this way)the chair is very comfortable. A great investment!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well made, October 8, 2009

This GCI Sit Backer seems to be well enough made but it is not as comfortable as some would have you believe. I had to run extra straps from the top of the back of the seat directly to the wooden canoe seat because the GCI would flex too far back to be comfortable. I did tighten the side straps that are on the unit down, but they did not stiffen the seat up enough. I used velcro to secure to the wooden seat, although I may yet put eye bolts through the gunwales and snaps on the straps that run to the top of the seat. So I have four straps, two on each side. The straps that are part of the chair and the new straps from the top of the chair to the canoe, which I added. The chair works much better now and is far more comfortable. The chair pads that you sit on grow numbing after several hours of paddling. I have a gel filled cushion seat that is much easier on the bum and sometimes put it on top of the GCI cushions. Much much nicer, but raises your center of gravity somewhat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, April 1, 2009

Outstanding purchase. We bought 3 and used them on a six day trek. Can not imagine how my bottom or backside would have hurt without these. Compared many brands and prices.....by this this was the best bargain and most durable product we could find.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the price paid, October 31, 2011

This review is from: GCI Outdoor SitBacker Canoe Seat (Sports)
The GCI Outdoor Sitbacker is just an okay seat and not worth the $40.00 I paid for it. Everytime you get up out of the seat it falls over and has no staility. The construction is cheaply made so to say the least, I am a little dissapointed because I paid more for the quality.

this chair is lightweight and probably would work for smaller people, however, the item is not strong enough to be comfortable in the backless stands.
