Great speakers at this price!,

This review is from: GE 2.1 Speaker System - 2.1-channel (Personal Computers)
I bought these speakers at Target because they were on sale. I was not expecting anything of quality for 20-some dollars, just some speakers to get me by. I was amazed at how great my music collection sounded, as well as streaming internet audio. The small, thin speakers sound very crisp and the subwoofer puts out some strong bass.

eisily worth the price,

one of the best 2.1 systems i have ever heard. no hissing, scratching, or other feedback, even at the highest volume level. these speakers are very compact and can easily fit on a desk, subwoofer and all. unfortunately, you almost have to do that, because the volume, power, and bass controls are all on the subwoofer. on the plus side, there is actually a separate control for bass, which isn't common for speakers of this price. the bass can be overpowering at its highest setting, but as i said, it's adjustable, so its okay. the satellites sound a little tinny at high volumes (the reason this is a 4/5), but the subwoofer balances it out. the other cool thing is that the input cord can be plugged right into an ipod/mp3 player for great sound in your bedroom or anywhere else for that matter.
sound 4/5 looks 4/5 (satellites look like deodorant sticks) value 5/5 features 5/5

It works fine. the sub-woofer is good for the price. it is small enough to sit on the desk. it come with 2 knobs to control the bass and overall volume. the 2 small speakers that come with it however are not good. although they work they are so light that even the smallest of force will knock them over and break them. also the sound quality from them is low. i would not reccommend this product unless you are on an extreme budget.

The other one-star review summed it up. Poor quality. I thought I was getting a bargain at [...] bucks (2 slim speakers and a sub???). In this case, I can honestly say, you get what you pay for. This time, junk.
Out of the box, nothing worked. No amount of wire wiggling made them work. The sub sort of worked, but the satellites never came on, just a humming sound. Returned to Target without haste.

Complete and utter rubbish,

I, like the first reviewer, also bought these speakers from Target for [...]. I liked the fact they were 8W with the sub which was a little more grunt that the typical 1.5-2W speakers for not too much extra money.
I got these home and plugged them in, all the connections were correclty attached, however even when plugged in no sound came out unless you held the rear plugs in place very firmly. The unit is defective and a simple movement of the speakers causes it to cut in and out. Additionally a very loud hum comes from the speakers when they are not being used, this too cuts in and out spontaneously. I have had some basic DELL speakers before which were never troublesome. Surprised that a reputable brand like GE could be so lousy. These will be going back for an exchange because the actual sound that did came out (all 5 minutes of it before these things crapped the bed, was pretty good) so I am hoping this is just a one off |
