5.0 out of 5 stars Great investment, July 29, 2010
This review is from: GE 24769 Outdoor Antenna for Digital HDTV Futura (Electronics)
This item should be mounted on top of your home or on a long pole. A neighbor mounted one on a small pole and receives 20 channels. I mounted mine on a tall pole and after hooking up the cable and pluging it in, I had my TV digital tv preform a scan and I got 50 plus stations right here in good old Danville, VA. I have been upset at Comcast raising my cable bill each year and telling me that I was getting a deal.
I researched and found that this small gem is perfect for what I wanted. FREE TV! I get NBC,ABC,FOX,CW, ION,3 PBS STATIONS and about ten HD channels that Comcast Digital starter will only provide if you rent their box! I found that Cable on shows can be located on line and I am now hooked on FREE TV! I am going to save my monthly cable bill money for something better!

Be warned that you will need to buy the cable and the pole. Most hardware stores will have the steel pole. Walmart, radio shack, Target or Kmart carry the extra cable. The signal booster is built in and a simple hook up is included. A great investment to save what I am each year now (822. a year)SEE YA DONT WANT TO BE YA CABLE COMPANY!!!

Great!

5.0 out of 5 stars It really works, September 26, 2010
This review is from: GE 24769 Outdoor Antenna for Digital HDTV Futura (Electronics)
This really works, unlike the piece of crap I bought previously at a "big box" store (the fact that they all looked like they had been returned was a good hint). I'm getting about 25 DTV channels with the antenna in my attic. It's also feeding my FM tuner through a splitter. No more fuzzy interference when people walk around in the room! It works slightly better on the roof, haven't tried a pole mount yet but I probably will. The built in amplifier makes a huge difference. The video is at least as good as cable, which I have canceled, and the audio is better. With cable (no converter box) using the tuner in my plasma TV the audio would drop out momentarily about once a minute. It doesn't do that with the GE antenna. I like that it's powered through the coax, so the power supply is at the TV end. Warning: It won't work properly if you have a splitter or signal booster between the power supply and the antenna.

5.0 out of 5 stars Location, Location, Location, December 29, 2010
This review is from: GE 24769 Outdoor Antenna for Digital HDTV Futura (Electronics)
We purchased one of these thinking of using it indoors in front of high windows above our TV. Reception was unacceptable, so we attached it outdoors using the cable from the satellite dish the antenna was replacing. After much experimentation, the best location proved to be in front of an attic vent at the peak of the roof (the screen on the vent appears to add reflection). Changes in orientation made a significant difference in signal strength, so take time to tweak. Now we get the 4 networks, PBS, MYTV and other local offerings. All this for less than one month's satellite bill.

5.0 out of 5 stars More stations, clearer than basic cable, November 25, 2009
This review is from: GE 24769 Outdoor Antenna for Digital HDTV Futura (Electronics)
We hooked this baby up and it was quick and easy. We maxed out the 100 ft of coax AND we are running 4 TV's off this antenna. The picture is clear and crisp, much better than the non-HD basic cable we had before. The unexpected bonus is that we get 29 stations...7 more than our basic cable. It should be noted that we live in a suburb of a good sized city, but this gave us reception of stations with towers 55 mi. away. We are not in the city or mountains, only tons of trees...so no interference there.

Just invested $5.00 more (than the GE antenna at $70.00) and ordered a TERK HDTVo antenna and it's awesome! Pulls in 76 stations (still many of them non-English broadcasting) as well as all the major network stations (in our area - 2,4,5,7,9,11,and 13) as well as added network stations (i.e. 4.1,4.2,4.3 etc) I feel this was a great investment through Amazon, especially with free shipping (was delivered within 8 days)

1.0 out of 5 stars Less capable than home-made models, March 13, 2011
This review is from: GE 24769 Outdoor Antenna for Digital HDTV Futura (Electronics)
I live in a beachside area with a limited number of over-air TV signals. Basically, half of the possible surrounding transmitter locations are in the ocean. So, it's important that I have an antenna that can pick up as many stations as possible.

Previously, I hand-made an antenna for digital broadcast reception. It's not difficult; the frame is a piece of 2x4 wood, and the antennae consist of V-shaped copper wires (or coat hangers) extending off of the wood. The antennae are wired together and connected to a coaxial cable connector, which can be run straight into your coax-capable TV. This DIY method is widely circulated on YouTube; you can find these videos by searching on "Homemade TV antenna."

My homemade antenna has worked pretty well, picking up 51 channels. At least half of these are religious stations, shopping channels, or Latino/Spanish language stations. Roughly 25 channels are usable to me. Also, a major network was not included in the stations my antenna picked up, so I purchased the Futura Antenna, in hopes of adding some channels and receiving all major networks.

In short, the Futura Antenna worked worse than my homemade model. When placed in a virtually same location as my homemade model, it picked up only 39 channels (all of these were already picked up by my homemade antenna.) The in-line amplifier included with the Futura package did not add any stations to either antenna when placed in-line on the coax signal. Also, placing these two antennas in parallel (using a signal combiner) does not add anything to your reception.

I remembered that a pair of rabbit-ears set-top antenna picked up almost 30 channels for me. So, I award the GE Outdoor/Indoor Futura Antenna one star, for being somewhat more effective than those.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Antenna, December 15, 2010
This review is from: GE 24769 Outdoor Antenna for Digital HDTV Futura (Electronics)
I live approximately 40 miles outside Philadelphia. Our house is a bi-level and I have the antenna mounted on my wall in the kitchen next to our 26" Sanyo Tv and I can tell you the picture is exceptionally clear and High Def.
I had a radio shack antenna that didn't last a year and had rabbit ears that had to constantly be adjusted, but this antenna stays in one place and pics up all the programmed channels and does it clearly.
great buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great for me, August 26, 2010
This review is from: GE 24769 Outdoor Antenna for Digital HDTV Futura (Electronics)
I am in an apartment and I mounted this on my balcony on the first floor. I have a clear path to the towers, and my balcony happens to be facing the correct direction. I have absolutely no cable of any kind because I am so cheap, but I do have an HDTV so I figured I would try this out instead of paying monthly. Without any detailed calibration I was able to pick up about 21 channels. The quality of the picture is great, it doesn't even look like it is coming from an antenna. Granted I won't be watching every strange channel that comes up, but I was able to pick up local CBS, PBS, etc. from over 20 miles away. I wasn't expecting to get 50 or 60 channels out of it seeing as it is very small, but I just don't have room to mount a 4 foot antenna. For someone in a limited situation like me it works. Be sure to visit [...] so you can see where to point the thing, good info.

3.0 out of 5 stars Took some work, but it finally pulled everything in., November 11, 2009
This review is from: GE 24769 Outdoor Antenna for Digital HDTV Futura (Electronics)
The GE antenna I purchased from Home Despot was compact and easy to install. Very simple and the instructions were straight forward. It took some work moving this around on the roof but eventually I hit the sweet spot using my cell phone and my wife in the house checking the tv and was able to pull all the local OverTheAir stations in High Def. I did max out the cable to antenna length of 100'..........so careful if you go over that length of coax you might not get the performance. Also, the above review sounds as if he was trying to get two tv's going off one antenna.......not sure if you can split the signal with this unit.
In the end it worked fine. David of the TwoTrees
