Strong digital reception, can be easily hidden inside TV cabinet,

This review is from: GE 24775 Quantum HDTV Antenna (Electronics)
This HTDV antenna is small enough to fit comfortably at the back of a shelf only 8 inches high, completely inside the TV stand. It requires very little space--it can fit behind another component, since it doesn't need any human access in use. One wire to the antenna socket on the TV, power cord to the power strip used for cable box and DVD player, and it's entirely invisible, wholly contained within the cabinet. I use it to receive digital signals (only) in a strong signal area (tower 2.5 miles away), and it does a great job looking out through a wood-and-steel TV-stand cabinet, through internal walls (old-fashioned dense lath and plaster), and then through external walls. It's great not to have a large and ugly indoor antenna visible in the room.

Got Only About Two Thirds of Stations that I Should,
This review is from: GE 24775 Quantum HDTV Antenna (Electronics)
I really liked the look of this antenna, and with all the good reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. I live half way between Milwaukee and Chicago. With my RCA Indoor Amplified Tv Antenna, I received over 40 channels from both Milwaukee and Chicago, including CBS from Milwaukee (CBS is a difficult channel to get in Chicago area). I got almost no channels from Milwaukee with this antenna, and many of those in Chicago would fade in and out. Needless to say, I will be returning this. I thought about giving two stars, but decided to rate average with three as I suspect getting an appropriate antenna simply means finding one that works well with your TV, your geographic location, and your environmental circumstances.

Great Little HDTV Antenna,
By Mr. G (Los Angeles, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: GE 24775 Quantum HDTV Antenna (Electronics)
I have cable TV service without HD. When I bought a HDTV, I wanted to watch shows in high definition so bought the GE 24775 Quantum Indoor HDTV Antenna. After running a setup scan from my HD televison, I am able to receive all my local stations and local PBS stations. I get superb images, color and sound. I live in a suburb of Los Angeles, California approximately 17 miles from the TV towers. After a few days, I discovered that I had the antenna upside down, so I correctd it with no chages in performance. It is fairly small in size compared to other antennas I've seen, but, it is a great performer. what a wonderful design.

Not the greatest indoor antenna,
By
This review is from: GE 24775 Quantum HDTV Antenna (Electronics)
I spent a lot of time testing different indoor antennas, and here are my findings. As others have noted, please use this as a guideline, as your mileage is likely to vary significantly based on your location, distance to TV tower(s) and other conditions. (I am in the SF bay area, in Los Gatos, close to the mountains so reception is a challenge, though antennaweb.org classified me as being in the "yellow" area - btw, if you read the antennaweb descriptions by clicking on it surprise, surprise, yellow seems to be the best, better than green!).
1. Rabbit ear antenna (from radio shack) - didn't work very well at all. I have tried rabbit ear antennas in the past (but that was before DTV broadcasts) and they didn't work well for me, so I didn't bother to try other rabbit antennas such as ones from RCA. 2. GE 24775 Quantum Indoor HDTV Antenna - I would rate this as ok, and not very good. It was highly sensitive to direction pointed to and it also seemed that the best direction to point the antenna kept changing. It seemed to pick up vhf though, which was a big plus for me, since my local nbc is vhf, and abc is also moving to vhf after dtv transition (according to antennaweb). Also, it needs to be powered and unless you turn it off when not in use, it is sucking power. 3. Terk Low-Profile Indoor Antenna (TV5) - was also ok but not very good, though it seemed better than Quantum above (however is bigger too!). It is also always on sucking power . 4. Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception - quite good. It got all uhf channels when directed appropriately (thank god my tv has a signal strength meter!). HD clarity was awesome! For those of you in the SF bay area, just point towards sutro tower in SF - I found that it didn't quite match with the direction that antennaweb gave me, though it was exactly 180 deg off, so I guess the "direction pointing to" may be subject to interpretation. The big negative for me was that it didn't seem to get my local nbc, which is vhf, though the antenna claims it is both vhf and uhf. It ia also always on, sucking power (but you can probably put it on a power strip and turn if off when not in use). I took the amplifier out and connected directly and it didn't work (the manual does explicitly warn that it won't work). It has an amplifier switch and so I turned it off, to simulate an unpowered unamplified version. With the amplifier turned off, it still seemed to work fine, so if that simulates the Terk Technology HDTVi VHF/UHF HDTV Indoor Antenna model which is unpowered, the latter might be worth considering. By the way, as I was going through my antenna search, one of the most helpful review for me was SHEiK124's review (http://www.amazon.com/review/R3CNHE86U355I4/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm) Next step for me is to try other antennas including some outdoor ones, especially the highly rated Antennas Direct DB2 Multi Directional HDTV Antenna which is supposed to be multi directional and doesn't require power (it doesn't have vhf though so that's a big negative for me) and some of the winegard ones, including the Winegard SS-3000 Amplified Indoor UHF/VHF Antenna which is supposed to have vhf reception. In any case, as others have noted, the move to digital with HD channels is awesome since I plan to stop paying the outrageous rates for cable! Good luck with your search for a good antenna!

Great Antenna! (And SO discreet!!),

This little thing is fantastic. Works like a charm. I never needed to fine tune my signals by repositioning. No matter where I put it I got great reception. I now have it hidden behind a chair so it is completely out of sight. Highly recommended.

Works Perfectly in my Apartment,
By
This review is from: GE 24775 Quantum HDTV Antenna (Electronics)
I was replacing some very old rabbit ears that weren't pulling in ABC in my apartment and had been looking for a good alternative. The reviews seemed good and I found it at target for $35 so I went there since I could return it easily if it didn't work (I usually don't believe any antenna is better than my old rabbit ears). BUT this was better. The compact design allowed me to put it on my window seal and behind my bookcase and it pulled in all my stations. Now, if I pull it back a bit from the window seal then the reception is bad. I think it is the shape that makes it better because my old rabbit ears couldn't sit well on the window seal. The shape of these is incredibly versatile for the new digital broadcasts. I highly recommend trying these for in town apartment dwellers who need something that can sit close to the window to avoid all the signal interference that apartments bring. It also looks pretty good on the window, the design is not horrible and silver is a pretty neutral color.

GE 24775 Quantum Indoor HDTV Antenna After trying other antenna's to use inside the home that didn't work well, this one has worked very well in good weather. The only fault is if it is raining or bad it cuts down on the amount of stations I can get. Ron

Keep YOUR RECEIPT!,

This review is from: GE 24775 Quantum HDTV Antenna (Electronics)
We bought this Amplified Quantum Antenna from Target almost 5 months ago and the amplified part no longer works. The antenna now only works similarly to rabbit ears antenna, but it no longer makes a difference if it is plugged in or not and we have lost most of our basic channels (NBC, ABC, WB, CBS). All that works are PBS channels and even then they only SOMETIMES work. Make sure to keep a receipt because you will need it to use the 1 yr warranty.

the thing is much smaller than I realized, so tucking it behind the TV was easy. The quality is good, I'm in the suburbs but getting strong signals, so I'm happy. What I am not happy with is that the device seems to stop receiving the NBC signal for some reason. A quick restart of the antenna (cut then restore power) fixes it, but this is a frustrating inconvenience.
The blue "on" indicator light on the front is actually REALLY strong, you won't want to be looking at it while watchign tv or it will be very distracting. Tuck it in an entertainment center and it can act as a nightlight!

This powered antenna only performs slightly better then regular cheap rabbit hears.
If you observe the product, in the middle, there is a cheap extensible antenna that needs to stick out. In the picture it is retracted, so if your plan is not to have one of those, don't buy the product. The blue LED light is disturbingly bright at night. We have it in our bedroom and I had to put a sticker on it. |
