Do not buy this phone.,

I used this phone as an extra one in the bedroom. While it is nice that I can turn the ringer off and the caller ID screen is lighted, there is no battery life. I have had the phone for about a year or less and have replaced the battery twice now. You cannot even talk on the phone for 10 minutes without the battery going dead. Standby only lasts a few hours off the base. The price is cheap but having to replace the phone every 6 to 12 months makes the phone more expensive.

Consumer Reports Best Buy Error,
This review is from: GE 26938GE1 900 MHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID/Call Waiting (Office Product)
Bought one of these phones. Like everyone else, followed ALL instructions EXACTLY. After less than 1 year, battery won't hold charge and phone keys have to be pressed numerous times to dial. Just bought brand new battery and followed charging recommendations before attempting use. It doesn't work. Headed for the garbage. DON'T BUY THIS and waste your money.

Man, were we diappointed with this GE phone! We did everything right---"trained" the battery in the beginning, made sure we routinely charged it, never dropped or abused this phone, and then one day it started not holding a charge. We couldn't figure it out.
It worked fine for about a year and then completely crapped out, just like the other reviewers have said. We had a 10-year old Toshiba that was so fabulous and reliable up to it's unfortunate demise, which is when we acquired this loser. Are there any good phones out there somewhere????

This phone is a total piece of junk and a waste of money. As others have described, the battery holds MAYBE 5 minutes of a charge. Forget about it if you don't set it back on the charger when you hang up. The next time you dial, it'll be dead. I'm talking within minutes. The beeps are indeed annoying, as is the ring and the overall volume. I can't get a new cordless fast enough...

Do not buy this phone. The buttons on mine went bad and now everytime I try to dial a number they stick. It's very frustrating having to start over again.

not the best phone,

This phone is very loud. The ringer is loud and the dialing is loud. There is no way to adjust the volume of the phone either. You can turn the ringer off, but aside from that you cannot make it less loud than it already is. Another problem I've noticed is that people have difficulty hearing me on the other end. I think this is due to the fact that this phone is completely straight, and therefore the mouthpiece of the phone is not near your mouth.

This telephone is a piece of crap. You know how cordless phones initially have to be charged for at least twelve hours before you can use them? Well, I charged this phone for over 48 hours and it STILL won't let you talk on it. No dial tone, no use of the keypad; the receiver doesn't even turn on when you press the TALK button. Leave it on the shelf and save yourself some money.

This phone will go blank after about 10 mins, after which either party has to redial to get the conversation started again. It does this every time. Very frustrating even if i got it for $20.

Cheap piece of crap,
This review is from: GE 26938GE1 900 MHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID/Call Waiting (Office Product)
This phone sucks. The battery doesn't hold the charge, resulting in dropped calls and major aggravation.
GE should be embarrased to offer such a piece of junk. Do not fall for this phone because it is inexpensive, as I did. You'll end up spending a ton of money on new battery packs or having to buy a new phone in just a few months, as i am about to do today. This time I'm going Panasonic! FYI: My GE refridgerator is also a piece of crap

Horrible Phone!!!!,
This review is from: GE 26938GE1 900 MHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID/Call Waiting (Office Product)
I bought this phone outside of amazon at a local store and it is horrible. The batterty is almost completely dead after two weeks of use! You get what you are paying for here, inexpensive junk! Buy another phone, this one will only make you feel worse for the ware.
