GE 27909EE1 Cordless Stainless Steel Finish DECT 6.0 Phone with Digital Answerer & Caller ID

This phone looks way cooler than anything else out there and it goes great with our new Stainless Steel kitchen. I bought it after reading several reviews that were right on.

1) Plastic, not stainless steel. But it looks identical sitting on the kitchen wall.
2) The holes are about 1/2" closer together than the hanger heads on the phone faceplate, but the bottom hole on the phone has a split bottom so it actually does get some grip when I hung it. It's a little floppy so I plan to put a piece of blue painter's tape on the heads so it'll be tighter.
3) The caller ID screen on the base is beautifully green and the red LED counter displaying the number of messages is fantastic. I am so tired of tiny little text on LCD screens.
4) It's made by Thomson for GE and honestly, there is nothing else like it out there.
5) I bought 3 extra handsets to put in other places in the house. They go nicely with the brushed nickel finish on our light fixtures and door handles. 6) The included instruction sheet is just as maddening as those large highway maps we used to keep in the glove compartments. Way too big and hard to refold. But once I installed the phone and learned the handset menus, I didn't need it anymore, shoved it back in the box and put it in the closet.
7) The handset's default volume is set at 2 so I had to bump it up to 5 when I made my first call so I could hear the other person well enough.
8) There is no headset jack, but I don't think I'll care.
9) Handsets don't have speaker phone, but the base does.

My next project is going to be to hide a UPS in the cabinets below and run the power cord in the wall down there so no cords are showing and the phone will work when we lose house electricity.

I purchased this phone because it's rare to find a wall-mountable telephone that has a base actually flush with the wall, not protruding. However, I never determined how well it worked because I had a lot of difficulty during the set-up process with registering the phones and finally called Customer Service. The first person told me to unplug everything (phone and electric cord) and wait 15 minutes. When that didn't work, I called Customer Service again and learned I needed to also unplug the batteries. I called Customer Service a third time when I couldn't remove the back (cover) of the phones to get at the batteries. There is a button on the bottom of the phone that you're required to press simultaneously with pushing the back off "as hard as you can." Why should it be so difficult to get at batteries? This phone is pretty but poorly designed. Looks get you only so far, even with telephones.

We've been using this product for about 6 months now with no problems.
The stainless steel finish is actually a metallic colored plastic.
The volume turns up quite loud. I keep the volume set a 1 and my husband puts it up to 4, so it's it's good for the whole family.
The ringer can be heard by all as well and the answering machine playback is clear sounding.

This phone is great to look at as far as the design and style goes but as for how it functions its terrible. This phone has many annoying features that seem to work intermittently. It answers calls when it is ready to not when you want it to. I have it set on the toll saver setting (4-2 rings) but it sometimes answers after 1 ring or maybe today 5 or 6 rings. The answering machine usually picks up about the same time that you decide to answer and then unlike any other answering machine I have had does not give up the line. You pick up and all you can hear is your recorded message and the person calling you can not hear you at all. There are many times people will call and the machine either hangs up on them or after the message plays there is never any beep so they are confused as to when to leave their message. As far as sound quality goes I think it is as good as any other phone so if you just need a phone and don't care about the answering machine it will work. I do have doubts about the longevity of the number pad on the phone itself. It is one of the thin plastic type like I have had on other things that in time has worn thru or ripped. The phone is cheap and thats what you get for the money.

I bought this phone quite a while ago (approx. 3 years) and it has worked great; however, the handset recently died. Of course I initially thought it was time for battery replacement, but that didn't work. So, I started my online search for another phone just like it because of its looks, nice features, and I had really grown to appreciate the display which was always back-lit. Unfortunately what I found SHOCKED me...this same phone is now selling for almost $240! I couldn't believe it...no way is it worth that amount of money!!! I only paid $60 for it 3 years ago and I can't see where any of the features have changed or been upgraded. If it still sold for under $100, I would buy another one but don't pay the excessive amount that's being asked now simply because it has the stainless steel "LOOK."

Worked for a few months, then died. Checked battery; ok. Looked good, but I didn't buy it for its looks.

The company informed me that it no longer had this phone so I cannot make a review since I did not receive it.
