With all the attention paid to cellular phones, it is easy to miss innovations in household cordless phones. This GE digital handset works with the corresponding base station to provide a telephone station anywhere this unit's AC adapter can be plugged in. I purchased the base station and three accessory handsets, providing great flexibility in distributing phones, while using just one hardwired phone line. I have tried these extensions in many places in the house and garage and so far performance has been excellent everywhere. The built-in intercom function is very useful for room to room calling -- much less frustrating than trying to yell over the noise of fans, air conditioners, computers, music, etc.

I give the product a 4 instead of a 5 because at least one of the stations has trouble staying synchronized with its handset. Easy to fix -- just pick it up, press the talk button twice, set it down -- but rather irritating when you are trying to answer an incoming call.

Voice quality is excellent, range is excellent, and I have yet to experience any noise or interference with the signal.

Makes me wish I had broken my old cordless phone sooner :-)

2.0 out of 5 stars not thrilled, August 23, 2008

Actually, I have the "master" phone and 2 other handsets that came with it. Immediately after purchasing the first phones I was pleased and purchased the last handset for the guest room. That was over a year ago and I have to say that now I'm not happy with any of the phones. Too much static in the lines, the range is not at all good (if I go to the patio, with the receiver in the kitchen about 10 feet away, the person on the other end can't hear me), and I can hear the main line buzzing all the time. I wouldn't purchase the set, or the additional handset, again.

Good phone when there isn't much background noise. Otherwise hard to hear out of. Phone in quiet setting is perfect.
