5.0 out of 5 stars Bang for a couple bucks
This little guy is perfect! I bought this radio so that I could listen to baseball games and talk radio on my headphones in my cubicle at work. I am thoroughly surprised at the quality of reception that you can get. I'm thinking about grabbing another one to keep around my house.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Reception
This radio might work better if you live in areas with strong radio signals. In the fringe area I live in, it doesn't work at all,
whereas the little ten dollar Panasonic RF-P50 Pocket AM / FM Radio works quite well.

Here's the story - it's small, can run on 4AA's or off a plug, and it has a headphone jack. Are you sold yet? You should be. Darned inexpensive and useful. A purchase that you will not end up kicking yourself over. Oh, the only downside is the antenna - it's not adjustable. It just pulls straight up. With due fairness, however, it hasn't seemed to hurt the signal at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT FIND, October 9, 2000
This review is from: GE 72664 Portable AM/FM Radio, Black (Electronics)
I work part-time/on-call in a toll booth & had a hard time finding a simple radio that wasn't a piece of crap. This was perfect! It's a GE product, which has always been a plus in my experience. It works very well, getting great reception out on the highway. It's also very lightweight and durable. It's hard to find a simple radio at local stores, so I'm glad Amazon.com still carries these types of items.

This is a nifty little radio; I listen to it at a very low volume in my office, and the sound is still crystal clear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent portable for the money, March 5, 2001

I got one of these a couple of days ago. Excellent reception across both bands, even in weak FM signal areas with the antenna down!

The only drawback I could find with this radio is the AC cord compartment is too cramped - you have to play with the cord until you get it in just right. This shouldn't be a problem if you just plan to use it exclusively with either A/C or batteries. But it is a tradeoff. A bigger compartment would result in a bigger cabinet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound for such an inexpensive radio, September 24, 2004

I needed a cheap radio for background music. All I wanted was decent sound and to receive FM radio. I wasn't interested in playing CDs or MP3s. Since I do a lot of work around the homestead, I wanted it to be small and easily portable and still have decent sound. This GE radio delivers on all counts. I live rurally but still close enough to town that I can't comment on long-distance reception. All I can say is that I get all the radio stations that I want to listen to, the quality of the speaker is plenty good enough for my taste and level of loudness in FM music, and I don't get any frequency drift so that I don't have to constantly fiddle with the tuning knob. It's just a great little radio for a very decent price. The only downside is that the FM antenna is quite flimsy and can be all-too-easily bent if you knock the radio over with the antenna extended.

5.0 out of 5 stars great little radio!, September 10, 2000

I bought this for listening to NPR while working on painting and stenciling projects on our backporch. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it does a good job with music as well as spoken words. I also like the fact that it has a solid, metal antenna instead of one of those thin, whispy wire ones that so interest the feline members of our household (my husband recently bought a clock radio with one of those antennas -- after two days it was summarily detached and removed to the living room for the 2000 Antenna Olympics). Another nice feature is the little compartment in back in which you can store the electrical cord.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm not really a snob, April 19, 2004

This is a simple, no frills, no gimmicks radio. Believe it or not, it was hard to find a radio with those qualities. Modern radios are teeny-tiny, and have tons of "features". I needed this radio for someone who was visually impaired, had severe arthritis, and was well beyond the age of dealing with multi-functional gadgets. Fortunately (?) GE is still in the business of making things "the old fashioned way".

To me, the GE brand has always meant "cheaply made". To be fair, it once meant superior quality and cutting-edge innovation, but GE along with General Motors and a few other "Super Conglomerates", took a vacation from quality and innovation in the latter half of the last century. Now they're madly playing catch-up, and this little radio, even though it's a throwback, is the first sign I've seen that they're making progress.

It's a simple am/fm radio. It's a little too bulky, has very nice monoraural sound, and the knobs are a bit too small for arthritic fingers. Still, it's just what I needed, and it's the first GE product I've intentionally purchased in over thirty years. Either my standards are coming down, or they're actually improving their quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars definitly better than expected, February 17, 2005

After reading the reviews I thought I'd try two of them. One for the basement shop which is a notoriously poor reception area, and one to bring to sites when it's not convenient to lug the big Milwaukee job site radio.

Basement radio gets more stations with less static than the previous three I tried (all considerably more expensive)

The other one has performed equally as well at various locations. I tune mostly to AM stations, but FM seems to work well too. Tucked it away at the jobsite one day, came back next morning and it had paint spatters all over it. I learned a valuble lesson 'never trust painters'. Still works as well as ever though!

Don't get me wrong. It's little, light, all thin plastic and defnitely Not built for a jobsite radio. It can't compare to the Milwaukee, Bosch, or DeWault for durability nor sound quality. But for $10 I can't be more impressed.
