5.0 out of 5 stars Great Unit, May 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: GE ADER30LN White Dehumidifier
This unit works great and with the digital keyboard it is easy to operate. I had furniture drawers that swelled and would not open. This unit had them back to normal in about 5 days. The unit tells the degree of humidity in the room. We are quite happy with it. We had first bought a Frigidaire and it lasted for 3 days and quit working. This unit seems more deluxe even though I am sure they came out of the same factory in CHINA as the packing was nearly the same on both units. The boxes look identical. We bought this unit on Amazon and it arrived double boxed in great condition. This unit has 3 fan speeds and on low it is livable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Faulty, June 26, 2010
This review is from: GE ADER30LN White Dehumidifier
I purchased this unit new and it was great at dehumidifying; what it did not do great at is shutting down when the reserviour was full of water causing it to overflow. I called GE and they instructed me to unplug it for a little while so it could reset itself. I did this and it did not solve the issue. I ended up bringing it back to the store to exchange it and the clerk told me that she sees these coming back for this all the time. I decided to just return it and go with another model. Maybe the store just had a bad batch? Who knows.

Found myself needing a dehumidifier. When to the store and of all the brands there GE was the only one that I recognized, so I bought one of theirs. Debated between buying the 30 pint model over one of the 50 or 60 pints ones and in the end went with the one that cost the least. Found out later when I set up the unit, that even thought the reservoir hold just 30 pints, you get adapter that lets you attach a hose to the unit so that it can go directly to a floor drain or drain into a large bucket.

Unit was fairly easy to setup, mostly just pulling off the tape that is used to hold the parts together during shipping and removing the hose adapter from inside the reservoir. After plugging the unit in and pressing the power switch it was off and running. One thing that surprised me, the air coming out of the unit is rather warm. Never having owned or used one of these machines, I didn't know that the air was heated as part of the process to dry the air. Makes sense now that I think about it, but was something I never considered. The hot air does make the space the unit is operating in get rather warm.

The space I'm using this unit in has a humidly level of around 65% (based on the unit's internal sensor and on another sensor I already had monitoring the space). After operating the dehumidifier for about two hours I was curious as to how well it was working, so I turned it off and checked the reservoir - it was about half full! I was impressed (but keep in mind, I've never used one of these before). The manual recommends running the unit for a full 24 hours for it to achieve the humidity level you want to maintain. That seems to match my experience with the unit, it took about a day to get the moisture level to where I wanted it.

I'm only into about my third day of using this machine and so far it's doing what it was made to do. However, I know that the true test is for it to continue work over time. If I start to develop any problems or the unit stops working I'll come back here and update my review - but if I haven't you can probably take that as it's still chugging away happily sucking water out of the air.
