good phone except....,
This review is from: GE DECT 6.0 Advanced Silver Cordless Phone with Goog-411, CID, ITAD, and 2 Handsets (28223EE2) (Office Product)
Just like the other reviewer, after a few days of installing the phone it began to have disconnect problems between the handsets and base. If it happens to one handset, it happens to the other as well. The remedy seems to be to unplug the power cord from the base unit then plug it back in. But sadly, the unit doesn't ring audibly when it's locked up; there are only visual indicators.
The phone's manual actually states that if the handsets lock up, then unplug the power on both ends, and remove and replace the batteries if this happens. So it's a known issue. Ugh. As far as I can tell, it happens randomly, and does not self-correct. The bright red bar of light on the bases is too much. I've covered them with tape. Otherwise though, the phone seems good. Battery life has been long if anything (8 hour calls). Sound is clear. Actually, one more thing is it can't be wall mounted, though the manual doesn't know this fact. I'll be happy with this phone unless the disconnect issue ultimately has no remedy.

I've had this phone for about 6 months and did not return it to the manufacturer because I got rid of the box and the receipt not knowing I would have problems with it. The battery life is awful! It does not charge well (sometimes I pick up one of the phones and it dies in less than 10 minutes). I am actually checking out reviews on other phones now to replace it.
Don't waste your money!

I purchased this product from another retailer at a great price, and was happy for only a short while.
The plus side: Great range, clear calls, excellent speakerphone, easy to use and set up, answering machine works fine. The very bad: As other reviews on the internet have stated, this phone appears to have in inherent issue of losing connection with the base randomly and quite frequently. What does this mean? When you press the TALK button, it randomly might sound like a fax is transmitting, or there may be no dial tone at all. To fix, you must bring the phone to the base station, and use its menus to reestablish a connection. Not bad if the phone is near the base. A major pain if the phone is in a remote room. Also, when the phones are "disconnected" they will not ring, although the answering machine will pick up. I had read the other reviews and figured it may be a random glitch that only happens to a few units. After my experience and troubleshooting, it seems the issue may affect all phones in this line.

We honestly gave this phone a good try. We liked the stand-up answering machine base, and the fact that it showed how many messages were on the machine and when new messages had been left. However, besides the annoying red light bar on the bottom of the phone receiver that stays on ALL THE TIME that the receiver is in its cradle, the phone also started to have "off" periods, when no calls could be received and calls out could not be made. This started happening about 4 or 5 days after the phone was installed, sometimes up to 20 minutes and sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. The phone would just beep when we tried to get a dial tone to call out, or if we could hear that someone was calling (via a non-cordless phone ringing), neither of the GE phones would pick up the call.
I don't know if this particular phone set was a lemon or if the problem is widespread, but we ended up taking the phone back when the problem didn't go away. We replaced it with an AT&T 6.0 cordless phone system and it has worked perfectly. I have actually found the AT&T menu setup easier to use as well. The phone receiver itself is less complicated than the GE phone was with its dual-function buttons on the receiver. The sound quality on the AT&T phone has been clearer than the GE phone as well. And the answering machine has the same features that we liked on the GE phone--it lets you know how many messages you have and the number blinks if new messages have been added.

We've had this phone model for months and almost right out of the box we had the same "searching for base" problems. It's unbelievably frustrating and very discouraging. We've been exceedingly patient in the hope that "it might stop happening this time." But we've just ended up being chumps with a phone that isn't a phone half the time. There is no solution and it happens sometimes several times per day. We're throwing ours into the trash; it is that worthless. Do. Not. Waste. Your money. On this.

After one month of using this phone, I am totally satisfied. I purchased these phones from Fry's about a two months ago. The phones could not be much better! The sound is great, range is farther than I expected. I am homebound and have used these phones from my house to my shop and not once have I had an issue. No disconnects or dead dial tone when needed. Plain and simple this phone rocks for me. I love the Google 411, the speakerphone that is in the extra handsets. The ability to check answering machine messages from each handset. Sorry for all the ones who have had issus, but this user has not.

Absolute garbage. Never buy GE phone again,

I bought this phone in the fall of 2008 and I couldn't be more dissapointed. Within a few months, the phone would 'lock-up' of sorts and not allow me to get a dial-tone. People could call me, but I wouldn't hear the phone ring and I ended up missing many calls. If you tried to press the green button, the phone would beep, and do nothing.
This problem was rectified by unplugging the unit several times. Then, more recently, the phone's speaker function stopped working. I noticed this when I had people call me - who I could hear - but they couldn't hear me. This occurred for 5 days straight. Again, an unplugging of the phone and all accessories solved this problem. I called GE and they admitted no fault with the product. They did offer to replace the phone provided I send them my phone at MY expense. I told them I would be willing to take a cheaper phone, to which they refused and insisted they send me the same phone. Needless to say, this will be the last GE phone I ever purchase. The phone is a piece of junk and everyone knows it - including the manufacturer. What a disgraceful product.

DEFECTIVE PRODUCT - DO NOT BUY!,
This review is from: GE DECT 6.0 Advanced Silver Cordless Phone with Goog-411, CID, ITAD, and 2 Handsets (28223EE2) (Office Product)
I have had the phone set up for one week. Like the other reviews, almost daily, the phone does not ring (answering machine will pick up but you can't get a dial tone to call out and you can't answer the phone either.) To clear the "jam" you have to unplug the phone and you never know when it is going to "Jam" or when it is jammed. What a piece of crap. DO NOT BUY -- GE should be ordered to reimburse all of us for knowlingly selling a defective product. GE and the companies that sell this defect are liable. I am an attorney and may file a class action if I cannot get a refund without a lot of hassle. [...]

Okay - I can't talk all the electronics - I have no clue what DECT means - but I know when something is more of a pain in the neck than not. The good: the sound is good from the receiver or the speaker. The rest: Battery life - 24 hours? Only if you plan on talking less than 5 feet away from the base. Answering machine - answers calls that haven't even rung the phone yet. Phone book - separately entered in each set - and worse still - hard to manually enter - best to have someone call you and then enter it from caller ID (which is a nice feature). Dialing - you start dialing a number and in the middle the phone decides it's lost the connection to the base. This phone is going to Good Will and we are purchasing based on a major consumer testing website recommendations. Frustrating as we spent an hour at the store going between umpteen models and came home with a lemon. Probably we should just throw it out (recycling the battery of course) and not make someone else suffer.

If you read the other reviews and you still buy this phone, you deserve what you will likely receive. I thought I might have a lemon phone or interference from a neighbor, but apparently the problems we are having are very common with this line of GE phones. SHAME ON YOU GE! I almost bought a different phone but I trusted the GE name more than the other off-brand. It was an impulse buy at a store closing. Never again will I buy something without researching it. The specific problems we are having are like many of the other reviewers. The phones disconnect from the base (even if the phone is IN the base). You have to unplug the power from the base OR go through the menus to reconnect. This has to be done every couple days. Meanwhile, people are calling offering jobs and we miss all the calls. We are connecting our OLD phones back which have always worked flawlessly. This is funny I just looked at the old phones are they are also GE! Stay away from the whole GE DECT 6.0 line!
