I have had nothing but problems with this phone. It re-sets itself all the time and the answering machine shuts itself off so that I can't count on it to take messages. The phone has a serious problem. I bought it because I had had one like it and it was easy to use and comfortable on the ear. But this one doesn't work half the time. I would NOT recommend this product.

~DISPOSABLE CHEAP TELEPHONE!!~,
This review is from: GE (Thomson) 2.4 GHz Cordless Telephone w/Digital Messaging and Call-Waiting Caller ID in White (Office Product)
I have to replace this phone after 10 months. The buttons are sticky and you have to push down on them very hard in order for them to work. The message machine meassages are muffled and some times dont come through. I'll never buy a G.E. product again.

Comfortable, but that's about it,

My wife and I chose this phone from a lineup of phones because it was the most comfortable. At that it succeeds, but at being a good, reliable phone it fails miserably:
We have owned the phone for only 11 months and already the battery will not hold a charge. Also, the reception is terrible. If we even go to another room besides the one the base is in, the phone emits horrible squaking sounds, completely drowning out the conversation. And, in the room with the base, static is clearly audible, alhough this may be related to the dying battery. This phone has 4 volume levels. Sometimes we find ourselves wishing there were 6 or 7. I'm sure the fault lies with the phone on the other end of the line being too quiet, but still it would be nice to be able to amplify a little more. This is particularly evident when talking to any type of call center employee, as their volume level is usually lower than normal. The answering machine feature of this phone leaves much to be desired. Every single time the power goes out the clock time and date must be reset. There is no battery backup option. Also, our automated message will sometimes be lost. We have had to re-record it at least 6 times. It is difficult to erase messages. The only way to erase messages is to play them and then press erase while the message is playing. This is very time consuming. Also, the speaker emits annoying loud beeps between each message, making the deletion process that much worse. It desperately needs an "erase all" feature. I also wish there was a pause feature and a rewind feature. Sometimes a distraction arises while playing messages. It's annoying to have to start the message over. Or, when trying to write down a phone number that was spoken too quickly it would be nice to have the ability to rewind a couple seconds. The only option this phone gives is to listen to the entire message again. Sometimes messages are very difficult to understand, but I actually don't blame the phone. The only times I have heard a poor recording were from cell phone calls, which are poor in general. This phone allows dialing before TALK is pushed. At first, this seems like a really cool feature, and it could be. But, it needs some way of indicating whether the phone is on or off hook. There have been many occasions where I have waited some time after dialing and only then realized I had forgotten to push TALK to begin the call. Because of this, when the phone company is slow in connecting a call, I have accidentally hung up the call and had to redial. Overall I cannot recommend this phone. We will be shopping for a replacement this Christmas.

I have the same phone, but without the answering machine part. Like the other person who said this, the buttons have gone bad and you have to push *really* hard to get them to dial anything. I've had the phone for less than 3 years!

Nice Phone & Answering Machine,

I bought this phone about a month ago, and it seems excellent, so far. The phone feels solid and well made, and the number keypad action is good and seems durable. Also, the large "TALK" button doubles for connect (dial tone) and hang-up (disconnect), which I like. I have not had any static problems, so far. Also, you can listen to saved answering machine messages from the base speaker, or from the handset, which is nice. Answering machine is straightforward and simple to operate. It is MUCH faster to check messages with a digital answering machine, than the old tape answering machine, which I FINALLY replaced, now. All in all, I am happy. BTW, I purchased the phone in dark blue/black color (GE model 27998GE2). I think it is available in 3 or 4 colors.

Poor battery; answering machine problems,

The battery is already going out after 6 months of low to moderate usage.
At least as annoying is this: If you put a cellphone near the base, the radio waves seem to re-initialize the answering machine. All saved messages and greetings are LOST! I would not recommend it.

This phone appeared to be adequate when I purchased it. However, the answering machine broke after 5 months. I purchased it at Target and they would not let me return it, even with a receipt! I will never purchase another GE phone, especially from Target.

Bad Phone,

This review is from: GE (Thomson) 2.4 GHz Cordless Telephone w/Digital Messaging and Call-Waiting Caller ID in White (Office Product)
I bought this phone several weeks ago because of the GE name. I should not have done that. I have been looking for another phone since the following day.
The ringer is not loud enough, I can't go into my back bedroom and talk because of the static and the messages on the answering machine are hard to understand. Also the handset is not comfortable.
Hope no-one else wastes their money like I did.
The only reason I gave it 1 star was because there was nothing lower.

I had this phone for less than two months before the answering machine malfunctioned. Most of the time my messages are deleted before I can listen to them or the phone beeps continuously for an hour. It's ridiculous. The phone itself is fine, but the answering machine is a BIG ripoff!!! Now that I know how many others are experiencing this problem...I know this phone should be recalled.
