Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Enjoy your favorite films and music without changing discs every hour or two with this GE five-disc DVD changer. The device lets you watch five consecutive DVDs or listen to five audio CDs or CD-R/RWs (sequentially or randomly), making it a great choice for viewing multidisc movie box sets or TV anthologies. That's not all, however. Users can also enjoy VCDs, DVD+RWs, and MP3 CDs, along with a slideshow of digital photos stored on a CD-R/RW JPEG-encoded discs. And thanks to the composite and S-video outputs, the DGE505N is compatible with nearly any TV.

The DVD player also includes two sets of left/right analog audio outputs that direct the audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo TVs. In addition, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround sound signals can be routed through the player's digital audio outputs (one RCA coaxial and one Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured A/V receiver.

If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, every movie night can still be the ultimate experience thanks to the SRS TruSurround, which simulates surround sound through two speakers (even your TV's stereo speakers). Supplied accessories include a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, instruction manual, and a multi-brand remote control that operates the DVD player and most GE and RCA televisions. The DVD player measures 17 by 4.2 by 15.5 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.

What's in the Box
DVD player, remote control, composite-video/audio interconnect cable, user's manual.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Good, June 16, 2003

This review is from: GE DGE505N 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
I purchased this unit less than two months ago and it has never worked right. It turns off after one disk plays and the menu display will not come up. Forget the GE 800 number - they route you to a long distance number and keep you on the phone forever. They would not take it back, but told me to buy a disk cleaner. My local repair shop said that would do nothing. Why should I buy more stuff to try to fix their problem? By the time I make the long distance calls, buy the "fixes" and pay to ship it back, I will have spent good money on a piece of junk. I've decided to dump the unit and buy a new one of better quality.
GE...thanks a whole bunch...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good product, July 5, 2003
This review is from: GE DGE505N 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
The first one of these I bought wouldn't even open and close the drawer - it jammed and stuck due to some mechanical fault. I exchanged it for a replacement and tried that out. While it does seem to do all that it claims, I was amazed to find that this multi-disc player has NO multi-disc functions! To change discs, you have to get up and push a button on the front of the machine. If I am doing that I might as well change the disc myself. I expected as a minimum that it would play 5 audio CDs in sequence - it won't, and it won't play 2 movies in a row either. Also, the remote stopped working for a while, then started again. My experience with RCA/GE is that the quality control has been terrible for several years, and it seems nothing has changed. I will return this unit and buy a better brand.
