How long the filters last depends greatly on your individual water supply. I've sinced pulled the battery out of the faucet because it is just a timer and has nothing to do with actually meaning the filters are dirty. I'm averaging about 9 month on the Pre and Post Filters instead of recommended 3 month. When I change them the prefilter is usually reddish (rusty looking) and the post filter just grayish. I've had the Osmosis filter in place now for about 4 years. I test the water with a TSD meter (Total Disolved Solids) and testing water out of the regular faucet it reads around a 10, Testing water out of the Osmosis filter it tests a zero. Which to me mean the osmosis filter is still working 100%. If anyone knows something different let me know. The only concern I have is where the overflow water drains into my sink drain I need to clean that every 3 months. If not it can get very dirty and clog up the osmosis drain. What happens then is the water can come out of the vent hole on the side of the Osmosis Filter. It happened twice in the four years I've had it and have been home both times. But potentially if the water doesn't flow back into your sink it could flood the floor.

Update 12/2012... Still never changed the Osmosis Filter. Check for TDS and it's still working. I haven't had the drain issue getting clogged in quite a while. I think the plotective coating on the osmosis filter was actually casuing the drain to get very dirty. But that coating must be long gone.

We have a GE reverse osmosis water filtration system and are very pleased with it. Last time I ordered these replacement cartridges (GE FX 12P), I bought them directly from GE. This time, I used Amazon to save money. Unfortunately, the reseller I bought from (wholesale water filter parts) sent an off-brand instead. They were sending "matrikx cto 32-250-125-975" (just search here and you can find it). I found that off brand sold under its name for $6 each ($12 for two) elsewhere, yet the seller here charged a price close to that of the name brands. I found other user posts with the same problems.

This is a great part if you can find the genuine GE one. I would just encourage you to check with the seller to make sure they are not lying to you and doing a bait and switch like they have done on this part for me and many others.

With my water, these last about 5 months before they get too slow and noisy. I don't see any issue with the made-in-China aspect. If anything they produce water faster than the older models, but I didn't really time it. My well water has enough iron that I'd notice if these didn't work well, and that's not a problem. Nice that I can get them at Amazon - Prime is easier than driving to Big Orange at times.

One tip - when changing the set, move the old Post filter to the Pre filter position, and just put the new filter into Post. I've been doing this for about 5 years and it works fine. Saves some money. No doubt the manufacturer would say it's a bad idea, but my measure is the water quality, and it's great.

My membranes seem to last forever, but maybe that's because I have no chlorine in my water.

These are the two filters which, along with the reverse-osmosis membrane (the real heart of the system) make up the GE reverse-osmosis system. The filters come with detailed written instructions, which is not always the case nowadays, but is always appreciated. Installation will take time and care, and you must have the special wrench and a strong grip to finish the job. I repeat: you must be careful.
I had no trouble, but I have a bit of mechanical ability. I know some people who, frankly, have trouble with changing a light bulb. This replacement might be discouraging if you are in that category. But if you are, take heart! Don't give up on yourself. You can always learn, and practice at simple mechanical things is a valuable learning activity, as good for the brain as an "intellectual" activity -- and so say I.

Not genuine GE filter cartridges (GE FX12P) as claimed by the seller. There is no label or manufacturer marking anywhere. Dirty smudges on the filter under the plastic wrapping. One has to wonder whether the filter cartidges are used and re-wrapped to sell as new. Definitely cannot trust these cartridges with suspicious origin for drinking water.

These filters are bone white...the ones that was in the filter was far from bone white, one was mucky brown and smelled "fishy" the other was somewhat less but also was dark a bit smelly. I used a bottle brush to wash out the inside with hot soapy water to make sure that the whole cavity is nice and clean before the installation of the replacement. The whole effort took about 20 minutes.

I also used an old bath towel on a cooking sheet under the filters when I was doing the work and prevented any water from coming out and wetting the floor of the cabinet under my sink. Do that if you have the room.

Did not receive the pictured Item. Rather, a knock off (no black top or bottom "ring", no GE badging on filters or wrappers) stamped "Taiwan" on the upper or lower white ring. I installed them anyway as we needed to change the filters. Taste of resulting water is not as "crisp" as branded pre and post filters but probably does filter the water sufficiently so as not to harm the RO membrane. Would NOT buy again.
