This purchase replaced the previous model from GE that was just like the previous one except for one thing. In the previous model, the microphone boom could be removed. I like that feature since it made it even more portable. However, the reason that I had to replace the older model is that I either was generating static in VOIP conversations or the others on the line could not hear me. So, I suspect this new, permanent mounting was to address such an eventual defect.
