5.0 out of 5 stars Optical mouse
I bought this mouse for my husband about 5 years ago. He just loved it. Unfortunately that one was not working well anymore, but knowing how he enjoyed using it and all the options on it, I decided to buy him the exact same one again. He is very satisfied with it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good product.

2.0 out of 5 stars good idea, bad execution, April 26, 2007

This is a nice looking mouse, but looks can be deceiving. I bought it because I like having 2 extra buttons for forward/back when web browsing. I couldn't care less about being able to scroll side to side. In fact, the extra wheel has become a nuisance. I bought the mouse to use at work, where I spend all day using AutoCAD. I need to use the wheel to zoom in/out and pan in AutoCAD, but it doesn't work if you have the side scrolling wheel enabled. No problem, I disabled that function, but it doesn't completely turn the second wheel off. Instead, the second wheel scrolls up and down in the opposite direction. Pretty annoying, especially since it's so close to the other wheel that I can't help but bump it or even mistake it for its counterpart once in a while.

In addition, I've had the same problem some other users reported: sporadically the mouse will stop working for no apparent reason. The laser still lights up, and I can still navigate using the keyboard, but the cursor is frozen. I tried uninstalling the software but it just froze the whole computer.

I guess that's what I get for buying a $15 mouse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Mouse, October 4, 2009
By
This review is from: GE HO97769 Deluxe Optical Mouse (Personal Computers)
I've owned 2 of these over the past 4 years, and have to say that they are great mice. the design is very ergonomic, and the side buttons are perfectly positioned. while the optical sensor and it's polling rate lag behind most Gaming Grade mice, this mouse does a great job for light gaming and normal word document editing and web surfing. Comfortable, reliable and easy to install, just plug and play. I have since upgraded to a Razer Copperhead Pro mouse, and it is a major difference, but then again it is not a standard optical mouse (it's invisible laser) and has a polling rate that blows the GE out of the water, I would buy another GE if I needed a budget mouse with a lot of bells and whistles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ergonomic and Handy, just don't install the software., July 13, 2009

I've had this mouse for about 4 and a half years now with few issues. It's designed to fit the palm of your hand perfectly, and if you do a ton of internet browsing and/or gaming, you'll wonder how you ever did without the Forward and Backward buttons.

Some people have complaints about the software, but I never had any of those issues. How so? I didn't install the software. Seriously people, it's a freaking mouse. Plug it into the USB port and you're set.

Unlike some laser-mouses(mice?), this mouse will track even on fairly glossy or plain surfaces without the use of a mousepad. It's not always 100% perfect on glossy surfaces, but it typically works well.

The only major problem I had was with the wiring itself, which was most likely due to my own error and tugging at the wire coming out of the mouse. Basically the wire stretched and I would lose connection with the computer mid-scroll, and have to wiggle the wire to get it working again. I disassembled the mouse to adjust the wiring to no avail. The mouse finally failed on me when I took it out into the garage and hit it with a 3lb sledge. Rest in peace little buddy.

Now I'm going to buy another off the seller listed at the top of this page. Oh happy days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, April 3, 2008
This review is from: GE HO97769 Deluxe Optical Mouse (Personal Computers)
I bought this exact same mouse from target a few months ago. It was a little less than $10 if I remember correctly. Anyways, as a gamer it was a bit of a risk buying such a cheap mouse being that everybody raves about high priced Logitech mice, as well as other brands. Needless to say this mouse outlived and preformed as well as my logitech mx518(minus not having sensitivity changing buttons). Also, this mouse is still running as perfect as the day I bought it. There were no drivers that came with it so I have no idea what all the negative reviews are for. People shouldn't give an item a bad review solely because they do not know how to handle their own pc.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mouse needs an exorcist, February 18, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: GE HO97769 Deluxe Optical Mouse (Personal Computers)
This is actually my second one of this exact model. Like an idiot, I believed GE support when they said the old one must be defective, and I really liked the way it felt, so I got a replacement.

Like everyone else, I had driver issues that came terrifyingly close to killing my entire system, a thing which I would not have believed possible from a mouse. I hadn't used the drivers with the first one, being fairly lazy, and seeing zero reason to as I know I'm not going to mess around with the extra buttons. After this experience, I'd be frightened to. God knows what they might do. Launch me into orbit? I wouldn't put it past this mouse.

The issue I had with the last one was the "screw it, I'm tired" trick. The mouse would just randomly stop working. At first I thought it was because I was using a port on the monitor, and if the monitor went to sleep, so did the mouse. This turned out to be not true. As near as I can figure, the mouse does not like daylight. It also seems to find a sick and twisted unholy glee in going inert just at the tensest possible point in any game you might be playing. Inevitably this results in game-death. I point to these two items to further build my case that this mouse is actually possessed by demons.

Mouse number two has all of these quirks...and a special bonus quirk that has kept me up at night, listening for the sound of a mouse stealthily slithering its way towards me as I lie sleepless in bed, waiting to be strangled by the USB cord. The newest quirk is that the cursor will randomly start jittering ever so subtly across the screen - even if you have your paw firmly planted on it and are absolutely motionless. It's extremely disturbing. Worse, you have to watch that sucker every second or it will sneak over to a link that you REALLY don't want to click lest you find some government types at the door.

This mouse, and its predecessor, and all of their kind are spawns of Satan. I urge everyone to avoid them like the plague. I say this even though I am an atheist - but I tell you, I'm so freaked out that once I submit this review, I'm going to take this poltergeist-plagued mouse to a Catholic church, immerse it in a holy water font, and then beat it into its component molecules with a Bible newly blessed by a bishop.

Long story short: DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT GE MOUSE HO97769. GE MOUSE WILL EAT YOUR SOUL (after it eats, and then excretes, both your hard drive and your will to live).

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money, August 31, 2007
This review is from: GE HO97769 Deluxe Optical Mouse (Personal Computers)
This mouse was a total waste of money; now I'll have to spend more to get a working mouse. I bought this mouse because of its low price and comfortable large size. This mouse has never worked normally. Software installation was problematic but finally accomplished. The mouse points for a short time after a reboot then STOPS RESPONDING EVERY TIME. Current driver is dated June 26, 2004, and there is no evidence of a driver update to correct this problem. After 2 months of use on my XP SP2 system, this was my last search for a better driver. The mouse is going in the trash.

5.0 out of 5 stars accurate, light, comfortable, reliable and durable for at least 3 years, June 2, 2007

This review is from: GE HO97769 Deluxe Optical Mouse (Personal Computers)
I owed this mouse for 3 years, and I used it on both PC and Macbook. According to my experience, this mouse is more accurate, light, comfortable, reliable, and durable than any other mouses I used. At a price of $13, it is not cordless and is not small. But big mouses are comfortable, and corded mouses are more reliable, easy to setup, and offer a faster response time. Much better than any expensive Logitech/Microsoft mouses that I owed. You would not get the forward/backward buttons in other low-cost mouses. I didn't have any software problem that the other reviewers had in all three years. Recently I broke it, and I immediately bought a new one of the same model. I have a strong feeling that Logitech/Microsoft mouses are over-priced; therefore, I hope GE can continue to produce such low-cost, well-designed products. Good jobs indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this mouse!!!, May 10, 2007

This review is from: GE HO97769 Deluxe Optical Mouse (Personal Computers)
I had none of the problems other reviewers had with this mouse. I use this mouse with first person shooters (I could not play without those extra side buttons anymore). I already bought an extra just in case this one breaks, although I've had this one for some time. I also use this for precise Photoshop work and it works FINE. I have recommended this mouse to friends and coworkers.

p.s. Target $12.99

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best ..., September 16, 2006
This review is from: GE HO97769 Deluxe Optical Mouse (Personal Computers)
The GE Dual Scroll mouse works great on my Win XP pc. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews of the software and I suspect that when installed those who had trouble didn't read or follow the installation manual. Mine works perfectly. I've programed all five mouse buttons to make copying and pasting the most efficient of tasks; far superior to using the right mouse button to bring up the context menu. And with the USB interface you never have to worry about using up a precious IRQ! Both vertical and horizontal scroll features are teriffic time/motion savers, too. I've used mine for about two years and the only problem that has come up recently was a tendency for the main button to perform a double click instead of a single click. But I like this mouse so much (bought it for $12 at a local cheapo store) that I am going to replace it with another.
