Replacing the 20 year old magnetic ballasts in my shop lights was easy for anyone fairly handy with simple tools like a screw drive and wire cutters - that's all I needed. I just connected the old sockets to the new ballasts with wire nuts (not included) and installed new T8 bulbs in the fixture instead of the old T12 bulbs. I got brighter, higher quality light, saved a few watts, and had instant on with no flicker.

This ballast works flawlessly. I used it to replace an older 8 wire ballast.

The old ballast had 2 input wires, 4 wires went to one side of the bulbs (2 each) and 2 wires went to the other side (1 wire each). This ballast only has 5 wires. 2 input, 2 to one side and 1 to the other of the bulb. It went in very easy. I cut the old wires with wire cutters, and just used wire nuts to attach this one. Diagram on the ballast tells exactly where to wire up what. 5 stars. Light comes on instantly, no flicker, no humming, nothing. It just works.

I bought 4 of these to replace all the ballast in my garage. I get instant on light and its actually brighter as well.

I bought this to install in a newer fixture that had a strange ballast setup that died prematurely. It was simple to install (much less confusing than the old setup in the fixture), and worked perfectly. I've got a number of older t12 fixtures that I plan to rejuvenate. This ballast costs less than a new fixture, and it's better quality than the garbage that comes preinstalled in the cheaper new fixtures so it's a no brainer to me!

As for the "tarlike substance" another reviewer noted, that's just a material they put in ballasts to shiled them from vibration, and shield us from their humming. Sometimes a bit oozes out during manufacturing, and it's really not a big deal. If there were a lot of it, I might be concerned....

I upgraded my old T12 fixture ballasts with these and changed the fixture over from T12 to T8. Took about 30 minutes to convert the first one. Each subsequent one took about 10 minutes. The result is more light for less energy that lasts for a longer time using bulbs that are cheaper and smaller. A win-win-win-win. I've been running with the new ballasts for several days now and they seem to work fine.

My old T12 ballasts were flickering very bad. Especially when using other appliances on the same circuit. These units bolted right in place and I wired them up in using a pair of dikes, some wire nuts and a screwdriver. They actually produced too much light with x4 T8 32 watt bulbs so I removed 2.

Replaced ballast in my laundry room with this. I had to re wire, but directions with unit (printed on it as well) explained what I needed to do. If you have any sort of electrical sense at all, this will work on the units that have two reds, two blues, white and black wires.

This ballast was used to retrofit a 1960's era bathroom ceiling fixture from T12 tubes to the new T8 tube. The universal mounting brackets aligned with the original mounting placement. The wiring diagram was very clear. The end result was a very nice upgraded fixture.
