Great value for these bulbs.

Though there seems to be a high failure rate with these bulbs; they either last 2-3 months or they last a lot longer.

Within a week and a half two out of the three bulbs I installed have burned out.

I use these in most places throughout my house, and they do save money. I have not had any break, and they last a very long time, much longer than a regular bulb. This price is very good, and less than my local "wholesale" club. Also, you are doing a little extra to help the environment. Keep in mind that this is a fluorescent bulb and so cannot be put on a dimmer (there are some CFL's that are dimmable, just not this one). I find it takes just a few seconds for the bulb to come to full power in the cold and in the house it comes up like a regular bulb. One last note, the end of the bulb is not as rounded and may not fit in some fixtures. It is not much different, but worth noting for those rare fixtures. The last two are my reason for 4 stars. I would have been happier giving it 4.5 stars, but that isn't possible.

The 2nd bulb out of the 5-pack just died, the 1st one having went out last month. I'm guessing it won't be long until all the rest stop working. It has a 5 year warranty so I'll just wait for the rest to fail before sending them back as you have to include the upc code. They brag about how much money you will save over the life of the bulb, but really, at $5 a bulb just how much are you really saving if they don't last as long as a $0.40 regular bulb?

Original review:
Certainly more light per watt than regular light bulbs, but every now and then I'll hear one of them whine. Not really a big deal for say, bathroom or closet lights where you are in and out, but for a reading light you might not like it. I use them all over the house and in all four of my outside lights. I have noticed that the cold (30-40 degree temp) will delay their full brightness for the first minute or so, but if you need to leave an outside light on all night for security reasons, this is what you want as you get a very bright white light for only 26 watts of power usage.

It is a white light, not yellowish like a regular bulb nor bluish like the early CFL models when they first came out.

I have only used a couple so far but the very first one I mounted in a light socket literally blew up instantly when power was applied, the next two worked fine so could have been a fluke but kind of spooked with that one self-destructing so I will update this review if I have anymore issues with quality.

I like the soft white look these have better than the harshness of most flourescent bulbs. I have purchased several types of bulbs to test them out and these are by far the best!

A++++++++++, would turn on again.
The bulbs do not flicker when they are turned on. The provide light which ends up causing less stubbed toes and running into furniture. I feel like the bringer of light to my dog, what more could you possibly want or need!?!

I've only had these for about 2 weeks, but they are great. I have been replacing my 60-65 watt standard and flood bulbs in my house with these. There is a small warm up about 5 sec. Initial brightness is good enough but when warmed up they are very bright, which I'm a fan of. Replaced a recessed 65 watt flood today with this bulb and I can see so much better then with the old incandescent flood.

The base of this bulb is a good size, you can see that from the photo, so may not be good for tight spaces.

I purchased 10 of these bulbs and exchanged for two additional bulbs after two failed. A total of 4 out of 12 have failed with the first bulb failing within the first 20 minutes of use. None of the failed bulbs lasted more than four hours. This is a 33.3% rate of failure. None of the bulbs were cycled as done with incandescents. The shortest amount of time a bulb was on is twenty minutes and this was only done once. The longest they were on is four hours.

There is a strong chance that the failure rate can be higher since four of the bulbs are on fixtures that have not been on for more than the initial hour. I have purposely not used these fixtures and now will commit to testing the reliability of these four. From my average, I should see one bulb fail.

Another negative of these bulbs is the humming noise that is emitted and can be heard from a distance of 10 feet. If you are in a relatively noisy area this humming won't be as noticeable.

I do not recommend this GE bulb: 20w 1200 lumens #15516. There is no cost savings if you are having to replace 33.3% of your $4 bulbs.

I'm convinced that LEDs are the future of lighting, but the first set of a half dozen LED bulbs my wife and I put in our home a couple of years ago failed within 4-5 months. I believe that excessive heat buildup was the reason, and some of the newer models that we've used have done much better. We're using them in overhead lighting fixtures that are difficult for us old-timers to replace. In the interim, until we go all-LED, we're using these 13W GE Energy Smart CFL bulbs (60W equivalent) in table lamps, and we've been very pleased with them.

We purchased these bulbs at our local Publix for $18.99 for a box of six. Amazon's current price is about $3 less, and with Prime free shipping, they're a good deal.

Note: Save your receipt and the UPC on the box. If any bulbs fail in less than 5 years (at 3 hours per day), you'll need them to get replacement bulbs under GE's warranty.
