1.0 out of 5 stars GE Profile Harmony washer smells bad, April 12, 2008
I purchased one of these washers about a year ago. It cleans well; however after using it for a few months, I noticed a terrible sulfuric odor coming from the space between the tub and its liner. Nothing takes it away for very long. I called the dealer and he said they have been made aware of the problem by others. He said there is nothing he can do about it. He mentioned that there are "tablets" that you can purchase (they are expensive) that may help to alleviate the odor. I fail to see why I should have to spend about $10/month to keep my $1000 washer from smelling up my whole basement.

1.0 out of 5 stars All Style - No Substance, November 6, 2009
This review is from: GE : WPGT9360EWW 4.0 Cu. Ft. Capacity King-size Washer
At first blush, the washer holds great promise. It is a beautiful machine. It has gorgeous lines and comes in attractive colors. The electronic display is intuitive with numerous wash cycles for every type of clothing imaginable. You can even customize a particular wash cycle to your liking or create your own from scratch. If you have the matching dryer (I do), it "talks" to the dryer and suggests settings for the incoming wash load. But, let's not get too enamored with the style, because the substance is where this washer fails and FAILS MISERABLY!

This is a high efficiency washer, which generally means it is supposed to wash better while using less water. One needs to use special "HE" laundry detergent to maximize these features and prevent over-sudsing. We wash a lot of athletic apparel at my home, and this washer cannot only get these items clean, but they come out stinking worse than they entered. I have used every detergent recommended by both GE and Consumer Reports without success. The washer does not drain the tub completely, as I can manually agitate the tub when its empty and hear the water in the bottom. This water sits in the tub after washes are completed and festers. There is no telling what kind of a poisonous soup is brewing in the bottom of that washer tub! My best strategy to overcome this problem is to use the "presoak" option on every load in the hopes that the poisonous soup is flushed down the drain after the presoak and only fresh water is used during the wash cycle. This takes much longer and completely negates any high efficiency benefits of the machine. The GE service technician was hapless and no help whatsoever.

As for the cleaning ability of the unit, it is dismal. I have owned 4 washers over the last 20 years. My old GE agitator washer was a great unit that cleaned admirably. After it died, I bought a Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart about a year before I inherited this GE with a newly-purchased home. I gave the AquaSmart away, thinking I had a better unit. Worst mistake I ever made. The AquaSmart truly was a great unit. Clothes came out very clean and very dry due to the excellent spin cycle. The GE, on the other hand, does not clean well and clothes STINK. Use of the "Vigorous" cycle on the GE only serves to "twist and wring" the clothes to the point that no wash water is agitated through the tightly-twisted fabric during washing. Clothes come out twisted, wrinkled and still dirty.

Save your money and sanity and buy a product that does what it is supposed to do - - WASH. If I want clean clothes, I need to go to my nephew's house and use the AquaSmart that I gave him! My only solace is that I have washer that looks pretty. I doubt I will ever buy a GE product again.

1.0 out of 5 stars GE Harmony has a defect, July 6, 2010
When I say my GE Harmony DPGT750 washer exploded, I don't mean it stopped working, I mean it burst out the top and sides during a spin cycle of bedding. It crossed the 8-10" to my wall with enough force that it put an 10" long, 1" deep hole into the wall. This machine has a serious defect. I'm very grateful that no one was standing by the machine at the time and that none of my pets were injured. Too bad this site doesn't allow me to upload photos.
