Good looking and smooth operation. The software is really great. I can browse recordable files and burn them right to the disk. For the money this is a good buy.

I did not purchase this item from Amazon so at least they won't be bothered by a return.
I bought this burner to replace the internal unit in my Dell Inspiron 518, now this is where I may be wrong but I assumed if it could burn DVD's it could also play them.
Installation was a snap and my system recognized the new device and downloaded the software successfully.
After installing the burner I tested it by playing a commercial music CD, it opened quickly into my Windows Media player and played fine, I then tried to play a DVD, it would not play, in fact it locked up and shut down my Windows Media player.
I called LG customer support and I was told, " you can't play DVD's in Windows Media Player, you need additional software that is not provided in the software that comes with the unit" he then directed me to an online resource to download another player software program which I chose not to do.
No where in any of the specifications does it mention this, in fact it is all over the box that it is Windows compatible.
I don't know how well it burns a DVD or CD I never got that far.
Hope this may be of help to someone out there.
UPDATE: Before I gave up on this item I Googled the issue and found out a majority of the modern burner/writers won't play in Windows Media Player, so I downloaded the player program the LG tech advised me to do, VLC player, it is reported to play anything, guess what it works it plays all my media,EXCEPT the DVD I burned on the LG writer, I am stumped it won't play it's own recorded DVD on the player program they suggest, but it will play on my Sony DVD player and my old burner.
Now I do give up
