I teach social studies, math, and science portions of the GED and I like the way the book is broken up into easily digested sections and the pre- and post-tests are very helpful. The answers in the back are written well and help the student to continue the learning process after the test or problem is answered. The book seems to have been updated with all the latest 2014 GED standards and is very helpful in digesting the differences.

The book appears to be also using some new math at times. For instance I found it ludicrous that a bank does not pay compound interest even after 5 years for the sake of overly simplifying things. You might want to avoid this complexity, but don't throw a system at them that is illogical and not realistic. Compound interest is always compounded in real life at some interval—perhaps months, but not an interval of 5 years. They also have a few spots where they employ bad data analysis. They have the reader correlate the results from two graphs of data that are uncorrelated and has an extremely small sample size. The analysis technique is valid but not for this dataset.

Overall, I would say they did an excellent job of picking good variety of mathematical problems that help in the learning preparation for the GED. They also did an excellent job of stretching the student to interpret the many graphical and tabular datasets they provide—just not always realistically.

As a practicing scientist myself, I find at times that the science the book focuses on often seem to be politically motived rather than focusing on good science. The example at hand is global warming. They treat this as resolved issue, while the scientific community is still divided on this.

I started working with some at risk youth locally. Just received my copy of of the New GED Test Strategies. Could not be happier with the product or the service. I have my first meeting with the kids tonight starting to get them ready for the test in a few weeks. Your over night service was a life saver for me. After spending a couple hours reviewing the book the format and content is perfect for our program. Hope to get these kids on the right path

We selected this book as a text for a GED school. There were online tests and study materials that were supposed to be available by registering the book on line. We were not able to access the website and when someone called the publisher, they were told that the software is not yet developed. This was a major disappointment..

The CD is helpful in that it tells you which answers you got wrong and give the correct answer to you. I did wish it would score it for you. The book has some helpful supplementary material , such as vocabulary word for each subject.

I love this GED book compared to the "MASTER THE GED TEST" book. This book has pretest at the beginning. I didn't realize how much I had forgotten. Till I took the pretest. Answers are in the back of the book and explains everything. I bought three GED books and this is my favorite by how it is set up how much information it has and the online test.

I recently got my GED with honors score and I used this book as a study tool. The author knows the topics quite well and she's a true educator, so that even tricky questions are designed to help you learn something if you give the wrong answer. I also liked the online mock exams, you should definitely take advantage of that once you buy the book. The look and feel of the online exams is very close to the real thing and the quality of the questions is as good as the ones on the book.
This book was NOT my only source, I also used an online math course and paid $24 for the 4 official mock exams. The only reason I don't give this book 5 stars is because it was structured in a way that seems to assume that you're going to take all the exams at once. That's how it used to be in the past, but now in 2014, if you live in a State that allows for online tests, you can take the exams at your own pace and convenience, one at a time.
Also, the online contents still have room for improvement.
Anyway, the book is great, it's not expensive and has plenty of good stuff to help you prepare for the GED. Good luck!

I bought this as a study guide for my son. We hope to have him ready for the test by the summer of 2015. I believe the reviews that talk about mistakes, political bias and other issues with the tests and with this book. However, I believe that we've made the best choice from the choices available. That is why it gets 4 stars. If it is worse that that, I'll amend my review. What I want to do with this review is to address the problems with the online accounts. I really worried about that one, because we need the practice with the online tests! I took a chance that the troubles others were having WERE being addressed by Kaplan, even though it doesn't sound (again basing this on other reviews) like Kaplan's customer service was particularly helpful. I hoped whatever glitches were present would be worked out. I went to the website found on the blue card attached in the front of the book. kaptest.com/booksonline The only problem that I encountered was that I accidentally clicked on the GRE textbook instead of the GED textbook for registration and it took some moments to discover my mistake. From there, you are asked to provide proof of purchase. Simply answer the question (What is the first word on this page, that problem) and you are good to go. I just checked and, sure enough, we have an account and I see no problems in using it. Hopefully, this isn't an isolated incident and others will be able to log on as well. Hopefully, Kaplan understood the need to provide the service that it promised and now everyone can get online.
I expect that the GED test, the study material, and all other matters pertaining to the GED, reflect the general state of our education system, which is broken. I just want to help my son clear this hurdle and this was, to my eyes, my best option. But, everybody's got different eyes. So all I really want to accomplish with this review is to let you know that the online registration worked for me.
