Do this once a day for 2-3 days and the thrush should be gone for good.

It will dye skin purple for a few days, and forget about wearing garments that get touched with the stuff.

My infant son had a persistent oral thrush and neither nystatin or diflucan worked t get rid of it. The last resort was the Gentian voilet and it should've been used as the first trratment. Other than the purple mouth, it worked great.

WARNING

It stains pretty badly so make sure it doesn't spill or get on any good fabrics.

I am a diabetic and one of the side affects of that (for me) is a constant battle with oral thrush. I was able to treat it at first with Nystatin but the sugar in the solution played havoc with my blood sugar and the more I used it the less effective it became. After having the thrush return again, I purchased Gentian Violet 2%. I wasn't thrilled with the idea of having my entire mouth, tongue and teeth purple but I was at my wits end. Not only did it clear the thrush up it was gone after only 2 applications. I will NEVER be without this again. The staining on my teeth lasted about 24 hours. The staining in my mouth in the affected areas lasted 48 hours. After I applied it the second time (even though the thrush was disappearing)the purple disappeared from the healthy skin in 24 hours and 48 hours from the affected area. After that it was completely gone!

My Irish Wolfhound has chronic ear issues and a friend recommended something called the Blue Power Ear Solution. Gentian Violet is one of the ingredients and very hard to find so I was happy to find it here on Amazon.

The Blue Power Ear solution worked on the dog! However, a HUGE CAUTION--when you put liquid in a dogs ear they like to shake it out. Gentian Violet STAINS and STAINS badly. Once it is on your clothes you probably can write them off. If you are treating your dog, it is a really good idea to use the stuff outside and wearing old clothes.

PLEASE NOTE: Before using the Blue Power Ear solution on your dog PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure a vet has checked the dog's ears to make sure there isn't a perforation!

I bought this from Amazon because finding gentian violet is getting harder and harder to do. I use it primarily for mixing up an ear remedy for my dogs. However, I also found that, not too long ago, I developed a very stubborn case of athlete's foot that just wouldn't go away. since it helps prevent yeast infections in my dog's ears, I figured I would try some on my problem. I put a little on a cotton swab and coated the affected area. Let it dry and then put on the usual cream. After doing this for a few days, my athlete's foot was gone. it didn't not burn but helped ease the itch, which was nice.
Now if you never have used gentian violet before, I have to worn you, it stains. I mean IT STAINS. I mean Everything and it is very difficult to get out, even if you get it on your fingers, you will have purple fingers for a while, so avoid using the applicator directly on an area to avoid drips, but instead dab it on a swab and you should be OK.
I love the stuff and it is sad that it is getting harder to find locally. At least I can get it here on line.

After contracting ringworm, I tried every over-the-counter remedy I could find. Iodine did almost nothing, tea tree and coconut oil worked, slowly, for a few weeks but the damn fungal patch grew back after partially fading away, and oregano oil was about as effective as tea tree but burned like the dickens and made me smell like a human spice rack. Then I learned about Gentian Violet, a now-nearly forgotten antifungal and antiseptic. Knocked my ringworm out quickly and painlessly. That said, it is messy! It will dye skin purple for a few days, and forget about wearing garments that get touched with the stuff. It'll stain countertops and walls too, if you're not careful. Still highly recommended for fungal infections.

This is the only thing that worked to get rid of Oral Thrush on my infant son! We tried two rounds of Nystatin and it did nothing. WARNING: This stuff stains and ruins everything! Best way to use this is when your baby is in a diaper (no clothes) and in a place where staining can be avoided. Would recommend a bathtub with water or even outside in the grass so dripping isn't a big concern. Once it drips, it will never come off without serious intervention (bleach, acetone, rubbing alcohol etc.) We accidentally spilled this stuff and used plain water to try to wipe it up and it made things worse! You can use rubbing alcohol to get it off the skin. The best way to apply is with a q-tip. Dip the q-tip into the bottle slightly so only 2-3 drops of violet are on the q-tip, drip off the excess so the q-tip does not drip anywhere and gently rub the tongue. Do this once a day for 2-3 days and the thrush should be gone for good.

Very happy with this product. My husband has a recurring skin fungus problem. Every five years or so he's had to go to the doctor's for another prescription. This time, we tried over-the-counter Gentian Violet. It did the job wonderfully. In three days the skin fungus was almost completely gone. The downside: It does stain the skin purple, but only for the duration of use. He was able to keep the area covered so no one noticed. The upside: very inexpensive and quick-acting.
