5.0 out of 5 stars GERMAN SOLDIERS of World War Two
Another excellent book from HISTORE & COLLECTIONS this time it's the Germans of World War 2.

It is 135 pages of high quality photographs of re-creators in authentic uniforms from all theatres that the Germans operated in.
The book is divided in to years from 1939 - 1945 so it easy to see what uniforms and equipment were worn in particular areas at...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but could have been better
After reading a lot of reviews about german WW2 uniforms I finally decided to buy this book. The good thing about this book is that is presents a lot of uniforms of the german soldiers. Not only the Heer, but also Kriegsmarine, Luftwaffe and SS. It's also good photos which present a lot of details. What I dislike about the book is first and foremost the structure of the...

Another excellent book from HISTORE & COLLECTIONS this time it's the Germans of World War 2.

It is 135 pages of high quality photographs of re-creators in authentic uniforms from all theatres that the Germans operated in.
The book is divided in to years from 1939 - 1945 so it easy to see what uniforms and equipment were worn in particular areas at particular times.

All insignia (No political correctness here) are shown with appropriate weapons and webbing.

The only thing missing from this book is photographs from the field which would show how appearances can alter after the normal wear & tear of a soldier's life

I have spent much money over the years on cheaper books which showed some of the information I was after but this book supplies most of the information you will need, be it for scale modelling or historical studies.
It is a must for any student of World War 2 uniforms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing 2nd Edition, July 19, 2005

FINALLY H&C reissued this absolutely classic title. What had been one of the best color resources on German uniforms of World War II is now even better. The photos from the previous edition have been repeated (with some additional description). But many new uniforms have been added, further fleshing out some lesser known subjects. This book is worth every penny, even if you already own the original.

Now, if only H&C would reissue some of its other classic uniform books like its Allied forces and Afrikakorps editions (also, how about a WW1 uniforms book in a similar format?).

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book detailing WW2 German Military Uniforms, August 13, 2002
This review is from: GERMAN SOLDIERS OF WORLD WAR TWO (Hardcover)
If you are remotely interested in WW2 German Military Uniforms you will find this book very interesting and worthwhile. If your interest is more serious then this book is a must have. The authors have put together an outstanding collection of modern day photographs of fully dressed German Soldiers. World War Two is broken down into different sections: '1939-40 The Blitzkrieg Years','1941-From Crete to Moscow', '1942-The Last Victories', '1943-The Turning Point', '1944-Setbacks on all Fronts', '1945-The Last Stronghold'. The actual quality of the photographs is excellent. The way the subjects modelling the uniforms are presented is excellent. The attention to detail is excellent. As a reference for uniforms and equipment of this period, this book is superb. I have only read the book as a passing interest and have been captivated by the detailed photographs. They may have been a fascist regime and guilty of starting a war, but it must be said, the German Soldier certainly had the smartest uniforms of all combatants. I have no doubt, modellers and military enthusiasts will treasure this book. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good WWII Uniform Reference, March 24, 2006

For anyone needing a good, general, reference to German uniforms - complete with pictures, this one will definitely work. I can see this being extremely useful for reenactors; particularly for those doing later war impressions.

All branches of the German military are covered, broken down, roughly, by year. The early war years, 1939 to 1941, aren't given nearly the attention that the later war period receives. As well, the quality of the accompanying text is uneven in places. Where it's good, however, it's very good. While not an exhaustive treatment of the subject, this book nonetheless proves to be an excellent resource. The photography is nothing less than stunning. My biggest complaint there is that there are only 134 pages. I'd like to have seen many, many more...

Will this answer every obscure uniform question that comes along? No. However, I do not think that was the intent anyway. While the large size makes this a good candidate for the coffee table, if you happen to have need of the information contained herein, it's likely that you'll be too busy reading and looking at the pictures to leave it sitting for that long.

5.0 out of 5 stars PREMIER BOOK OF GERMAN WWII UNIFORMS, April 8, 2002

This review is from: GERMAN SOLDIERS OF WORLD WAR TWO (Hardcover)
If you are an enthusiast about World War two from the German perspective, this book is a must! The authors have compiled the largest collect to date of modern day pictures of original German uniforms and the related equipment. The pictures are not only great but the written compilation that goes with it is excellant. You will not be disappointed even though the cost is very steep.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on the field of german uniforms, September 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is an excellent book, the photography is of superb quality and the captions very complete (although some have problems with translation from the original French)even too technical at times. For history buffs and military modelers this book it a must buy. It's a gem, from cover to cover, worth every cent.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must for collectors of militaria and interesting for the general reader, May 3, 2008
German Soldiers of World War Two by Jean de Lagarde is an impressive collection of color photographs illustrating in great detail what the German military man looked like in the 1940s. Pictured are uniforms of all kinds: dress, working, and combat for both winter and summer. Weapons and equipment and insignia and decorations are also shown.

The focus of the work is on the army, but other branches are also covered. This is an impressive volume and a must for collectors of militaria. The work is also quite useful for the general reader although the level of detail is often beyond what the average person will need: Hindenburg bomber pilots wore "black flying boots made of smooth leather for the uppers and suede for the shaft."

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic collection of uniforms and equipment, January 9, 2007
This book is fantastic for the military modeller. It provides full colour photos of German military uniforms and equipment from World War II. It also contains detailed pictures of German awards and decorations.

The book also has a hard cover and therefore should last a while.

Overall German Soldiers of World War Two is highly recommended.

My only disapointment with this book is that it has One Hundred Thirty Six Pages rather than the One Hundred Sixty described.

Otherwise it's a great book on German uniforms of world war two.
A must for a history buff.

I only wish that there was more.
