Reviewof Getting Your Child Ready for Outpatient Surgery,
By Peinurse "HSM" (canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: GETTING YOUR CHILD READY FOR OUTPATIENT SURGERY (Paperback)
This book was a fabulous resource. As a pediatric nurse, I realize that picture books are a great resource for preparing kids for procedures. This book was purchased to help prepare my 4 1/2yr old for outpatient surgery. We talked about the pictures (both photos and pictures drawn by the 9yr old in the book), and what was going to happen at the hospital/each step. I left out the parts about the needles, bloodwork as I knew my son would not be receiving that. I felt he was very prepared and was not scared of the doctors, nurses etc. He even went with the OR nurse by himself without crying for us. We are actually discussing using this book as a pre surgery resource for kids in our Pre-surgery clinic. The clinic thought it was great as well.
Highly recommended!

Good book, with real-life pictures, not cartoon drawings. I'm hoping this will help my child make the connection between the book, and what will be happening to her.

We got this book for my 6 yr. old who had to have outpatient surgery. The step by step, detailed descriptions (but not TOO detailed) of the process from start to finish were very comforting to him. What seemed like a scary idea at first became no big deal. He actually looked forward to going (wish I could say the same for us, his parents!)
