Highly Recommended for anyone that shoots video with a dslr.

I followed the instructions, which required sticking a permanent frame around the camera's screen which would allow the hood itself to be attached or removed.

It does the job..... TILL... the day comes when.... the frame that the viewfinder click locks to during use, falls off the back of your camera.

I've been shooting stills for over 30 years, and Canon digital for the last 6 years. I'm branching into video and bought this magnifier for my 7D so I could use the lcd for critical focusing and viewing in bright sun light - it works great for both. This is one of those rare, relatively inexpensive photo accessories that works great. I think you get more than you pay for. It comes with a plastic frame that has a hard, clear, lcd protector built in. The frame has 3M stick-em around the rim and fits perfectly over the 7D viewfinder. Once the frame is secured to the camera, the magnifier snaps into place, so you don't have to hold it there. The eyepiece has 3x magnification and a diopter adjustment built-in, which is really nice - I don't need to wear my reading glasses to see the lcd clearly for fine focusing. The optics in the eyepiece even appear to be coated! The only thing that concerns me a bit is the durability of the hinge that allows you to flip the magnifier up out of the way while leaving the unit mounted to the camera. But, I'm not too concerned. If it breaks, I'll just glue it together in the closed position - I don't see a lot of use for this feature to begin with. Given the higher prices of similar units, some with fewer features, I'm really happy with this. I'd say try this before spending more on another brand. If you like it (and I bet you will), keep it. If not, send it back and spend 2 or 3 times as much for a different brand. A surprisingly good product at a great price!

I have this viewfinder attached to my Canon T2i and it fits perfectly. The viewfinder is affordable and does the job of the outrageously priced Z-Finder. I can't believe how much easer it is to rack focus when I'm filming. I also live in Arizona where the sunlight used to make the LCD screen completely unusable. This viewfinder has solved all my problems with my T2i.

You don't need to glue the mount directly the LCD screen.

Instead, buy a GGS DSLR LCD Screen Protector for just a few bucks. Make sure it has a roman numeral III on the black package.

You should mount the hoodeye mount to the LCD protector instead of your camera LCD.

It works great and saves you from gluing this to your camera.

This Hoodeye 3X vFinder is a spectacular value for any serious filmmaker and professional videographer. The construction is solid, materials is superb, and the function is just as it advertise.

I film professionally on a 5D mark ii. Although the 5x/10x focus zoom had been a helpful resource during shoot, tracking focus on the move or depicting depth of field on the tiny 3" screen is still a hard task to perform to precision on set. I wasn't sure if the vFinder was helping at first after I mount it on when my lens was still on f/8, however, as soon as I stop up my Sigma 28-70mm to f/2.8, I can immediately tell where the DoF fall off is within the viewfinder.

The flip up "viewing mode" also makes reviewing footage on set like a breeze, even in sun light; and if there's a huge crowd review image, just push in the quick release and remove the entire hood to review footages. Some say it is hard to align the screen cover/base mount, but I have no issue at all sticking mine onto the 5D mark ii LCD screen.

The only complain I have is that the vFinder does not comes with a holder or carry case. So I have to find a case somewhere to enlose the unit before I can safely transfer it within my camera bag.

As a cinematographer, I have been filming on set for quite sometime. Although my work has been mostly consisted of no budget full-feature and low budget shorts, I am critical aout my work and shoot professionally. Therefore I value for high quality equipments to help me achieve the acclaiming level of aesthetic I stride for. This vFinder do exactly that!

So I have had a couple different Viewfinders both for T2i and 7D. It's always a crap shoot buying something you can't hold and feel first. However, this is by far the best one for the money. You can flip it up without taking it off to check settings which is something no one else offers. The screen protector is quality and all the clear components are glass... not plastic. I was pretty amazed by the build quality as well. Some of these cheaper view finders... digifinder to name one, have a really plasticy feel. This feels like delrin it is so solid, really quality plastic. I would compare it to the Zacuto or the knock-off Zacutos out there (wondlan and proaim), just a miniscule fraction of the price. None of the graphics or stickers on the viewfinder look cheesy either ( I think redrock and zacuto stuff looks "power ranger"), they are all subtle and professional which I like. I don't really get the lanyard, I would never walk around looking like a dork with something dangling off my neck, but it's a nice feature if someone doesn't have a bag or something to put gear in I guess. Nothing feels "cheap" about this, it is solid, quality and I will continue to sing its praises to my friends and colleagues. Couldn't be happier for how much I spent. My question: With items like this and other gear of this ilk... people should never have to pay the exorbitant prices some companies try to charge for the same gear! Be smart with your money, this is a smart buy.
