Book Description

"Fans of Lee Child and Jim Butcher will love this series!"
—The Underground

Protector and punisher…

Hunter and hunted…

Down-to-earth and otherworldly…

John Spector, aka GHOST, isn’t your ordinary investigator.

He carries a shiny badge, a billfold ID, and a mysterious silver suitcase. His mission? Seek the forgotten ones, the abandoned ones, the ones no one else can or will help. Visit blunt force trauma upon the world’s blackest souls and deny the devil his day by any means necessary. And never stop. Never.

For more than a decade, the "Smiling Jack" killer has been posting photos of his victims on the Web, daring anyone to catch him, daring anyone to care. But when no missing person files match and no victims are ever found, the FBI closes the case.

Years later, a digital camera washes up on shore, and GHOST finds it. Each macabre photo becomes a clue that will lead GHOST and FBI Special Agent Deanna Rezvani on the trail of one of the most diabolical killers of this world…or beyond.

"No one gets away with murder. Not for long."

About the Author

WAYNE THOMAS BATSON is the Bestselling author of ten adventure novels including the fan favorite DOOR WITHIN TRILOGY, the pirate duo ISLE OF SWORDS and ISLE OF FIRE, and the new 7-book fantasy epic DARK SEA ANNALS. A middle school Reading and English teacher for 23 years, Batson loves to challenge—and be challenged by—his students. So, when he began writing stories to supplement the school district’s curriculum, it was his students who taught their teacher a lesson. Batson’s students were so taken by one of the stories that, over a thirteen year span, they pushed him to make it into a full-length novel. That story became The Door Within. Since then, Batson’s students continue to be his frontline editors. Says Batson, “Two things you can count on from middle school students: Intelli-gence and Honesty. Kids are so much more perceptive than a lot of us ‘Big Folk’ give them credit for. And when something’s not right in the story, they’ll tell you about in very clear terms.” Batson lives in Maryland with his wonderful wife of twenty years and four incredible teenage children. "God has blessed me with a remarkable family," Batson says. "Not perfect. But intelligent, fun, faithful, loyal, and entertaining." With over half a million books in print, Batson believes his books appeal to so many kids and adults because, at a deep level, we all long to do something that matters, and we all dream of another world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Thrilling, Intriguing, and Fantastic Novel! July 27, 2013
By Erin P.
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is an absolutely amazing book that is both humorous and thought-provoking. The way Batson wrote this book with its serious themes and creative plot twists, while at the same time adding in humor and fantastic suspense, blew me away. If you're searching for a book that deals with the seriousness (and sometimes horribleness) of this world but also with hope, mercy, and good-versus-evil, look no further! Batson created a book that not only keeps you on the edge of your seat with suspense and mystery, but one that also is very thought-provoking, and definitely worthwhile.

4.0 out of 5 stars John Spector is a great character March 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I generally don't care for supernatural thrillers, but for some reason the story caught my interest and kept it to the end. John Spector was someone I wanted to spend time with.
At times the violence was overwhelming, and as with all supernatural thrillers for me, there were lots of unanswered questions about the interaction of spiritual and physical worlds. What does it mean for an angel to be killed? I still don't know.
If, like me, you don't care for supernatural thrillers, you might try this one and find that you like it for the same reason I did: John Spector is a great character. If you do like supernatural thrillers, I'll bet you will like this one, too.

It is a good book that is a well-written parallel to the spiritual world. I recommend the reader is mature enough to handle real world scenarios.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing!! January 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was amazing, and author W.T.B. has just risen to the top of my list again. I have read all of his books, and this definitely does not disappoint. He writes with a brilliant passion that you normally do not see anymore. I am so excited for the next John Spector novel. I will definitely be one of the first in line to buy it. To Mr. Batson, never stop writing. This work was brilliant!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoa. Just...whoa. January 11, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Incredible story.
This book isn't like other books. Normally, when I read, the story itself embeds itself into my brain and the action goes by in a sixty mph pulse-pounding wind. This one...I read it (though not during mealtimes:) and the story folded itself.

John Spector, Agent "Rez," Doc Shepherd, and everyday people that brush past the main, all make for a story that could be quite closer than you think! It will catch your attention--and hold you like autumn holds the crispness. (or something like that!)
The characters came alive, but not through a step-by-step passage through their brains and history. They simply made themselves based on their actions and speech. Though it was slightly confusing about "Smiling Jack"- it would've been more so if I hadn't read the one-star review. If you don't understand, stick with the story!

And the while the violence was descriptive, it wasn't the standard, "Okay, here's this, here's that, now to add some blood and gore to keep the Call of Duty players reading." It was, "Here's this. Here is what would happen in this situation." It wasn't senseless, is what I'm trying to get at.
(When I finished reading the book, the song "Wrapped in Your Arms" by Fireflight stuck out to me as an appropriate analysis of a core concept.)

But I have to admit: I couldn't tell if it read slowly because I was savoring it like a Lindor chocolate or like a bitter-sweet herbal medicine that I knew I had to take.

Another quick note: most of the time, typos scramble from the page, running to my brain while mad-catting (acting like...a mad cat!) through my semicircular canals.Or at the very least they make me do a double take, no matter how good the story is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blown Away! January 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read just about every Wayne Thomas Batson book that I can get my hands on, but this one tops them all! Batons approach to the spiritual warfare was simply incredible! His characters were so believable and tangible! I found myself getting lost in these pages every time I picked it up!
This is definitely a must read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly different December 23, 2013
By Bob
Format:Kindle Edition
I received this book free to read and review

At first I thought I had started reading the middle of a series as John Spector the Ghost of the title seems to have just completed a case and is moving on to the next one. In fact I think this is the first book and I hope there is more. As the story develops you find out more about Ghost and his missions until near the end all is revealed.
Although dealing with distressing subjects, kidnapping and serial murders and violent at times it is a well-structured story that slowly builds and follows clues as in a fairly conventional detective novel but although looking for the murderer and wanting to bring him to justice Ghost's justice is not the same as the FBI agent he forges a working relationship with.
I thought this very original and want to read more particularly to find out about Ghost's past, if indeed there is one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Familiar territory but a solid journey.
The lone stranger making things right has been done to death already in thrillers but Batson brings an interesting twist and I'm glad I finished this first book about Ghost.

More About the Author

Wayne Thomas Batson was born in Seabrook, MD in 1968. During the early years he tortured his older brothers and sisters, doing those things that only younger siblings can do to get on your nerves.
He attended Gabriel DuVal Senior High School and wrote this for his Yearbook
Senior Goals: To become a professional writer or artist. During the high school and early college years, he played lead guitar for a rock band called "Contagious." They were catchy, but apparently not enough to get a record deal.

Having completed the rigorous Holmes English Literature Curriculum, he graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1991. In 1996, he received his first graduate degree in Counseling. He has continued his studies with 36 credit hours of graduate-level Reading courses.

Wayne Thomas Batson has spent the last fifteen years teaching Reading and English to middle schools students. He pioneered the active instruction of Strategic Reading in Anne Arundel County and has written Reading and English Curricula for Anne Arundel County, Carroll County, and Howard County Public Schools. Most recently, he helped develop the Challenge Reading Curriculum for advanced readers in Howard County, Maryland.
Wayne Thomas Batson lives in Eldersburg with his beautiful wife of eleven years and his four wonderful young children. Besides dividing his time between family, teaching, and writing, he likes to read, golf, play PS2, travel to the beach, play electric guitar, and create 3D artwork.

Wayne Thomas Batson is the Bestselling author of five adventure novels including the fantasy epic Door Within Trilogy and the pirate duo Isle of Swords and Isle of Fire. A middle school Reading and English teacher for 18 years, Batson loves to challenge--and be challenged by--his students. So, when he began writing stories to supplement the school district's curriculum, it was his students who taught their teacher a lesson. Batson is teaming up with author and friend Christopher Hopper for a new book series, The Berinfell Prophecies. The first book, Curse of the Spider King, hit bookstores in October 2009. It promises to turn the traditional "portal fantasy" on its head, posing the question: What would happen if the fantasy came to us? Batson believes his books appeal to so many kids and adults because, at a deep level, we all long to do something that matters, and we all dream of another world.
