I agree with all of the reviews, but have found another area to use fast fret on: THE NUT. When tuning, the strings (especially the lower wound strings) hang up on the nut which causes the string to pop instead of slide as it would on a roller nut. Dab Fast Fret onto the nut before tuning, and this problem is greatly reduced.

Very Useful Accessory For String Instrumentalists!,

This review is from: GHS Fast-Fret String Cleaner
I discovered this string lubricant many years ago and I concur with what most of the reviewers here have said about it although I wouldn't call it a string cleaner although you indirectly clean the strings if you use the cloth and like another reviewer stated you should also use the cloth to clean the undersides of your strings as well. I unfortunately live in a very humid climate being only a little above the equator and so strings have a very short life here and so anything that can prolong their life is a real boon for a musician here. I agree that the only downside is the inability to tell in advance that you are running low on lubricant until it actually turns dry but I guess given the price and the overall usefulness of this accessory, one cannot complain too much. Now that mine has just run dry I'm going to delay a replacement purchase while I try out something new that I've just discovered called "The Swipe" which enables me to clean both the undersides and the topsides of my strings without chemicals. If this works as well as advertised, I may still get Fast-Fret but for its lubricating properties which really helps make playing a lot more comfortable.Recommended!

I really love the fast fret cleaner. It glides well on both acoustics and on electrics. What I have issues with is the cloth that comes with it. It really is substandard. When I clean with the cloth, it actually leaves strands on the edges. So, the cloth needs to be replaced, but the cleaner itself is very good. I just wish that the product came with a better wipe cloth.

String cleaner? More like string saver!,

Well, I started using fast fret back in 2005, and I've been buying it every since. If you use it as recommended (put on/wipe off before/after playing) it makes your strings sound brand new for well over a month. Once I got a pair to last for about four months! One tip I have is to buy two "bottles" of it because you can't really tell when you are getting low on the stuff. that way if one bottle gives out on you there's one in reserve.I highly recommend this product both as a musician and someone who hates changing strings (and buying them!)

Simple, but good; and that's the best kind of good,

It's white mineral oil on a stick.GHS has a habit for giving a terrible name to a wonderful product (ie. guitar boomers, fast fret). I don't use it as a cheating lubricant, but the oil mobilizes the dirt and fingergrease, allowing the cloth to glide under each string, or over all the strings, smoothly and easily. I use it every time I pick up or put down my guitar, which adds up to several times daily. It's a labor of love, and an act of honor to the instrument. Just goes to show: If you treat your instrument well, it will return the favor.

Same can for 15 years! Love this stuff!,

I bought a can of this stuff back in 1994. Back then, it came in a metal can with a metal lid. I'm STILL using that same can, and I don't understand what people are talking about when they write reviews about "buy an extra in case it dries out." Mine has not dried out in 15 years, and the applicator brush still has about 3/4" of life left in it... it's still just as slick and has the same smell as it did the day it was new. I still have the same cloth as well. Perhaps they don't make it as long-lasting as they used to... I don't know. I'm a professional guitarist, and I use Elixir acoustic light strings exclusively. I play gigs and practice every single week, and apply Fast Fret before and after playing each time... both top and bottom-side of the strings. I change strings about every 4-5 months on my Martin rosewood guitar, and the tone is always incredible. Within the next year or two, I might buy a new tube of Fast Fret to replace my old one.

String Saver,
This review is from: GHS Fast-Fret String Cleaner
I've been using this product for 13 years It was the first string cleaner I ever tried, and loved It. It cleans your strings, makes it less harsh on your fingers so you slide better. But be sure when you use it to take the cloth and slide it under the strings as well to clean under them. Also if you are a person who plays all the time you might want to buy two. The only way to tell if your about out of the stuff is wipe it on your palm or something to tell if there is any residue. It's a great product for first time guitar players are even people who have been playing since they was 7 years old like me.
