I was looking for a brighter top end on my vintage Guild hollow body archtop w/ DeArmond pickup to offset the bottom heavy amplified sound I was getting with other strings (e.g., T-I, LaBella, Black Diamond) . These GHS stainless steel strings deliver a nicely balanced amplified tone and, considering these are electric flatwound strings, are even satisfactory when playing un-amplified. If you require highly-polished flatwound strings to reduce unwanted sound, look elsewhere, because these have a VERY slight texture that will rub if your fingering technique is a bit lazy.

Hi, Most of you know me from my 30+ Reviews I have written for Amazon.I always try to be fair, and often give a positive slant BUT NOT THIS TIME: I've heard again and again the best string choice for a jazz box are flat wound strings. So I gave these GHS Flats a try and found them to be VERY MUDDY. So much so that I don't even like playing my jazz guitar anymore - HOWEVER, I recently DID get to play on a friends guitar that had D'Addario CHROME FLATS and loved them. Still gave a rich deeper tone without sacraficing the highs. I am ordereing a set from Amazon as we speak :) As always, thanks for visiting my review and be well. The WebbMan... |
