Book Description

January 2009
After the release of Volume 1, many readers and collectors pointed out several pieces they possessed which were missing from the book. Although including each and every item issued to the American soldier is a near impossible goal, the author started making a list of what should included in a second edition.

All chapters from volume 1 have been revised and updated (among others: uniforms, signal and medical equipment) and new sections have been added, including personal equipment, Stateside training, and the life of POWs in German camps.

More than 1,000 new artifacts with detailed captions are featured in this completely revised new work. Volume 2 of the G.I. Collector's Guide provides a complete and unequaled source of American ground force documentation for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great companion to the first volume, January 6, 2009
This review is from: GI Collector's Guide, Vol. 2: U.S. Army European Theater of Operations (Hardcover)
If you have seen Vol. 1, then this is quite similar, just with different items. Vol. 1 has more equipment and uniform items, vol 2 has some mor esoteric things, and more small personal items. All photographed in wonderful color.

While this book is a must for collectors of WW2 US militaria, it is also a great color guide for modelers and wargamers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your single source resource for WWII Memorbilia., June 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: GI Collector's Guide, Vol. 2: U.S. Army European Theater of Operations (Hardcover)
I originally encountered this book at a friend's house, the president of the non-profit reenactment group U.S. 2nd Rangers Infantry Battalion of St. Louis, MO (2ndrangers.org). He uses this book for researching items he is interested in, finding out exactly which year items were produced, and for entertainment. He has touted it as one of the best research tools he's found for WWII reenacting.

After I flipped through it and attended WWII Weekend 2009 at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis I decided to start a business recreating the paper products from WWII for reenactors and the public. This book is absolutely invaluable in that respect. It has more items than any other book I've seen. It truly is an all in one resource.

If you're a reenactor or WWII aficionado, or have a child or someone else in your life who is interested in WWII this book, and its sister book Volume I, are the perfect purchase. Though the price may be off putting for some you have to realize that the book is full of 100% full color high gloss pages it is beyond worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Outstanding Contribution to Collecting, February 9, 2009

This review is from: GI Collector's Guide, Vol. 2: U.S. Army European Theater of Operations (Hardcover)
For the second time, Henri-Paul Enjames has made a major contribution to the world of identifying and the collecting of American WWII militaria. Volume 2 of the GI Collector's Guide adds to and expands the categories of equipment identified in the first volume. More emphasis has been placed upon ephemera, those paper items intended for short time use, under Army Publications and Other Printed Material. We find sections on publications and paper items of all kinds. The section on Personal Items has been expanded, as well as Sports & Recreation. A section on American POW's has been added, along with new sections on Camp Life, the Wartime Draft and Training Camps. Significant additions to Volume One's Uniforms, Mountain Troops, Female Personnel and the Medical Department have been made. Other sections; Weapons, Armored Forces and Airborne Troops have new additions. Of particular interest is the expansion of the equipment used by Army Chaplains. Here we find published photos of rare and difficult to find items used by Chaplains to hold services in the field for all three denominations. It goes without saying that this volume is essential for the library of the serious collector. The color photography is unequaled and the list price is very reasonable.
