Book Description

March 2006
This invaluable book shows you how you can lose weight, improve your overall health, increase your energy level, reduce food cravings, and reduce your risk of cancer and diabetes simply by makiing a few changes to the sort of foods that you eat. The core of this approach is the glycemic index (GI) - a measure of how quickly the energy from a carbohydrate is absorbed into the bloodstream. In this book Rachael Anne Hill explains how to cut down on quick energy release foods, as well as saturated fats, and how to replace them with a good-carb diet based on low-GI foods, unsaturated fats, low-fat proteins, and fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. She then offers a huge selection of easy recipes for breakfasts, snacks, quick lunches and suppers, and entertaining dishes, with photography by Nicki Dowey. Masses of practical advice on how to incorporate the low-GI approach into your daily diet. With more than 60 low-GI, low-fat recipes, there is plenty of inspiration for cooking the healthy way every day.

This review is from: GI High-Energy Cookbook: Low-GI Recipes for Weight Loss, Health, and Vitality (Paperback)
I was expecting far more recipes and far easier to find ingredients. I have made a couple of the recipes, but I dont turn to this book first, second, or even third when cooking. I would suggest looking at the book in store before purchasing. It could be just what you are looking for, but it was not what I was looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accessible and Tasty, November 30, 2011
I really like this book, it very simply explains the principles of GI cooking and has a lovely section on things to avoid and most importantly what to subsitute them with! The recipies are modern and I found all the ingredients were easy to find. I have a sweet tooth, but I found the book contained plenty of cookies, scones and breakfast bar recipies to keep me on the right track! I bake up a batch and freeze them so they aren't sitting out caling me to eat them (they are that delicious!). They freeze really well, like freezing your credit card , defrosting is a delaying tactic- but you know where they are in an emergency! I have never written a review before, but I had to write after reading the previous review (I'm back to buy another copy as a gift- that's how much I like it), this isn't a technical volume, but it's a lovely GI cookbook.
