These seeds have a SERIOUS husk on them. I don't suggest peeling the husk back right away though. When my seeds arrived, one of them looked smashed, but I decided to throw it in with the others (scored the other seeds, soaked for 48 hrs, then into a wet paper towel, folded inside a zip-lock bag, above my fridge). I got frustrated after about a week of nothing. started picking at the smashed seed to see if anything was going on inside. There was a viable sprout gaining strength slowly. I had peeled the husk away about 1/4 on that seed, and was worried I might have killed it, but it's been a month and some change now, and that seed is JUST starting to leave the safety of the husk, but is showing green leaves. These things are INCREDIBLY slow to get going!

I decided today to peel the husk a little on all the others today. Low and behold, they all have live sprouts inside, but that damn husk is THICK! Scissors even had a though time. I cut the edge of the seed husks off lengthwise, and opened it like an envelope just a little with my thumb nail. I think that should help them along significantly.

Give it a few extra weeks (IMO). Things are really slow to get going.

I ordered Giant Canteen Gourds. The seeds arrived and were suspiciously small, Giant Canteen Gourds (Langenaria) should have large seeds almost the size of a pecan. The seeds germinated about 50 % and produced a 'Baby Rattle' gourds. Curcubits, Not even the correct species and certainly not Giants. Rob's wasted my growing season. I won't be back.

Received 8 seeds, planted them 7 or 8 days ago and 6 have germinated to date...but I haven't given up on the last two .Plants are very strong and hardy appearing and growing so fast you could probably watch them spring up...almost. :)

I received my seeds in good time and was getting ready to start them indoors when I noticed the germination time on the package.....7-48 days! If the seeds don't even germinate for 48 days, that will put them way to late to grow in my time zone!! Now I will have to buy a different type of seed to make sure I have enough gourds for next year! I wish I had known this before I bought these !

All the seeds were DUDS! I starting four different types of gourd seeds from three different seed vendors. All the seeds were started on the same day, the same way and in the same seed starting container. The other vendors' seeds are growing strong.
